Chapter 356
Blake’s POV:
Emily’s accusation hit me like a physical blow. I felt my blood pressure spike, a familiar tightness gripping my chest.
“I didn’t push her away,” I snapped, my voice dropping to a dangerous low. My fists clenched at my
sides as I struggled to maintain composure. “What the hell are you talking about?”
Emily stood her ground, unflinching under my glare. The hospital’s fluorescent lights cast harsh
shadows across her face, highlighting the determination in her eyes.
“I don’t agree with what you’re saying,” I continued, leaning forward slightly. “I only want to know
one thing–in Anna’s heart, does she believe I pushed her away?” My voice cracked slightly on the
final words. “Because I didn’t!”
Emily crossed her arms, a cold smile playing at her lips. “Looks like Anna still hasn’t told you. You
think you didn’t push her away because you have no idea what she did for you!”
I stepped closer, towering over her. “Cut the bullshit and get to the point.”
“Your father’s real cause of death,” Emily said quietly. “Claire being investigated and then suddenly
in the clear. Don’t you find that strange?”
My body went rigid as memories flooded back–that hellish period when everything seemed to be falling apart. Anna pulling away from me. The tension with Caroline and Claire. Me, caught in the middle, trying desperately to hold everything together.
“I was a mess during that time,” I admitted, my voice hollow. “Anna was avoiding me. Things were
tense between her and Caroline, between her and Claire. I was stuck in the middle… it was fucking
painful.”
Emily raised an eyebrow, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “So you chose Claire, is that it?”
“No!” I shook my head violently, feeling the color drain from my face. “I didn’t choose her! I was
keeping an eye on her, making sure she couldn’t hurt Anna. Everything I did was to protect Anna.”
Emily’s laugh was bitter and sharp. “If Claire had any ability to hurt Anna, it’s because you gave her
that power.” She turned to walk away. “Save your explanations for Anna.”
I grabbed her arm, panic rising in my throat. “Anna misunderstood–she thought I chose Claire? Is that why she left?”
Emily paused, her expression complicated. “Yes and no…”

Chapter 356
I tightened my grip, desperation making my voice harsh. “Be clear!”
The weight of everything crashed down on me. I sank to a crouch, my legs suddenly unable to support me. My extremities felt numb, cold.
Images of Anna flashed through my mind–her smile, her tears, her quiet strength. The thought that I might have lost her through my own blindness was too much to bear.
“If I could go back…” I whispered, my throat constricting painfully. “I would have protected her from
the start…”
Emily looked down at me, her voice filled with excitement. “Anna’s health deteriorated severely back
then… all because of Caroline.”
She took a deep breath before continuing, each word clear and resolute: “Claire too, she hurt Anna a
lot. And, Claire is the one who really killed your father!”
My head snapped up, pupils contracting in shock. “My father… it wasn’t Caroline?”
Emily met my gaze directly and nodded. “No, it was Claire. She Cut Off William’s Heart Monitor!”
I stared at her, struggling to process this bombshell. “But Claire escaped investigation without a scratch. How is that possible? The police wouldn’t keep something like that from me.” My mind raced through the implications. “Anyone with that kind of leverage could have demanded anything
from me!”
Emily’s bitter smile returned. “Exactly. What kind of idiot would hold that kind of power and ask for nothing in return? What kind of fool would do all that and then be unable to stay by your side to support you through your illness because of your own concerns?”
I shot to my feet, eyes burning. “What do you mean she couldn’t stay? I’ve wanted nothing more than to have Anna by my side!” I slammed my fist against the wall, my voice breaking. “What the
hell did Anna do for me?”
Emily’s eyes glistened with unshed tears as she mimicked Anna’s soft voice: “‘Blake doesn’t need me,‘ ‘Without Claire, Blake will fall apart.“”
Her voice grew louder, more intense. “Anna was afraid you wouldn’t survive without Claire, so she altered Caroline’s testimony! That flawed statement–she rewrote it until it was airtight, completely disconnecting Claire from any involvement!”
Emily’s hands balled into fists as she continued, tears now streaming down her face. “For you, she nearly sacrificed her entire life–lost her love, couldn’t continue her career, her health deteriorated… and you think you deserve her?”
