Chapter 524
The expensive diamond necklace hit the ground and shattered instantly.
Everyone was startled by Anathea’s sudden action.
But Anathea’s expression didn’t change at all. She looked at Shirley nonchalantly.
“It was pretty, but unfortunately, you said my hands were dirty, Ms. Lancaster. I wouldn’t dare touch it again, or it might upset you.”
Shirley’s expression stiffened for a moment, her fingers tightening even more.
“You-” Shirley was just about to snap, but Frederick shot her a warning glance.
This was the Lancaster residence, and they were right in front of Grace. They couldn’t afford to offend Grace, or they wouldn’t be able to explain themselves to their parents.
Not to mention, they were being watched by everyone around them.
Shirley could feel all the curious, amused looks aimed at her.
The more smug and willful she had been earlier, the more awkward and humiliated she felt now.
Still, she gritted her teeth and smiled at Anathea. “I wouldn’t dare think your hands are dirty, Ms. Lancaster. If you don’t like this necklace, I’ll get a better one next time and bring it to you in person. Would that be alright?”
“Thank you for being thoughtful, but no need.”
Anathea smiled slightly, her tone calm and detached. “I think it’s dirty.”
At that, Shirley dug her nails into her palms, while Frederick’s expression darkened. They never imagined Anathea wouldn’t spare them even the slightest bit of dignity.
But Anathea didn’t plan to stop there. Instead, she walked right up to them and spoke in a cold, commanding tone that left no room for argument.
“Ms. Watson, I hope you’ll learn to show some restraint. If you insist on targeting my friend, then don’t blame me for being rude.”
Anyone with a bit of sense could tell that the friend she was referring to was Hannah, who was standing beside Anathea.
As Anathea spoke, she swept her gaze across the entire crowd.
They had been gossiping about Hannah earlier, and Anathea was now standing firmly by Hannah’s side. She was making it clear to anyone who dared to spread rumors to shut their mouths.
The atmosphere instantly grew heavy.
In the end, Grace broke the silence, turning to Frederick and saying calmly, “My daughter tends to be rather direct. I hope you won’t take it personally.”
Since Grace had spoken, no matter how angry Frederick was, he could only force a polite smile and pull the nearly out–of–control Shirley back.
Even the guests quickly brushed it off with light laughter. Their gazes toward Hannah grew noticeably warmer and friendlier.
Anathea took it all in, feeling a bit emotional. No wonder so many people in this world liked to rely on the

powerful.
Who wouldn’t want a backer this strong?
Now, that powerful support had become hers.
She suddenly felt a bit surreal. It was almost hard to believe
Grace gently took Anathea’s hand, grounding all that uncertainty into reality. “Nat, today is your first official day home. I’ve prepared a cake. Let’s go cut it together.”
She had already missed too many birthdays for her precious daughter–she planned to slowly make up for them. Anathea looked into Grace’s earnest eyes, nodding slightly.
The next moment, a nearly six–foot–tall castle–shaped cake was slowly pushed out.
Gasps of envy rippled through the crowd as people swarmed forward.
“Oh my god, that cake must cost at least three million!”
