Chapter 347
In the end, Malik could only entrust Elsie’s care to Jessica.
Afterward, Malik sought out Leon.
After dismissing all attendants, Malik said solemnly, “There’s never been anything wrong with your face. Why do you refuse to show your true face? Are you afraid that if Consort Thalia finds out, her family will only strengthen their resolve to put you on the throne?”
Leon remained silent.
Leon remained perfectly composed, while Malik, the outsider, was growing increasingly agitated.
“Don’t tell me you’re really giving up on the throne? Still planning to return to the Northern Borderlands? You can go back, but what about your mother? How could you bear being separated from her forever?” Malik asked.
As a member of the royal family himself, Malik understood perfectly well that, as a frontier prince, he wouldn’t be able to take his mother with him.
The King always kept some “insurance” in the capital to prevent the frontier princes from rebelling.
Thalia was Leon’s birth mother. While he might not be willing to sacrifice everything for her, having his mother in Capitalia would always give him pause, even when stationed far away in the Northern Borderlands.
So even if Leon were to return to the Northern Borderlands someday, there’s no way he could take Thalia with him.
Leon said calmly, “I’ve never considered rebellion. In that case, Thalia can remain in Capitalia, and I can visit her as often as I wish.”
“And what about Jessica? Are you taking her to the Northern Borderlands? Would she even agree with that? The Yates family’s roots run deep in Capitalia. Would she really leave everything behind just to follow you all the way out there?”
Leon remained silent once more.
Malik pressed on urgently, “If another prince ascends the throne, how could he possibly tolerate a powerful figure like you? As the King of Northern Borderlands, your achievements overshadow the King himself. If your father is the ruler, that’s one thing, but if it’s your brother, that’s outright defiance. The next King will move against you without hesitation.”
“You think I’m afraid?”
“But he’ll also target everyone connected to you. Your mother’s family, the woman you love, even your future children, and her family. To them, all of you will be nothing but thorns in their side…”
Malik fell silent, unable to continue, because Leon fixed him with a gaze as sharp and icy as a blade.
Malik felt a bit uneasy.
Leon snorted coldly. “You’re just afraid that without a powerful backer in Askar, you’ll lose this battle.”
That remark left Malik utterly speechless.
Yet even if Malik’s thoughts had indeed been laid bare by Leon’s words, what he said remained an undeniable truth.
“Have you ever considered,” Malik changed tactics, “what would happen to Jessica if Waldo were to become King one day?”
Leon shot him a cold, sidelong glance. “Jessica would never want to be the Queen. Whether Waldo becomes King or not makes no difference to her.”
Malik remarked with a hint of sarcasm, “You really know Jessica inside out.” Leon even knew she didn’t want to be the Queen!
“But have you ever considered that if Waldo ascends the throne, he won’t tolerate your family or the Yates family? He’ll wipe you all out without mercy.”

Chapter 347
“Then I’ll take Thalia and Jessica back to the Northern Borderlands in secret.” When the time comes, it wouldn’t be that he insisted on taking Jessica away, but that the Capitalia could not tolerate the Yates family.
