Chapter 343
Elsie froze in place.
Jessica finally managed to grasp Elsie’s hand.
Her hand was ice–cold, utterly devoid of any warmth.
Jessica tried to gently pull Elsie’s hand away from Garbisch’s waist, but as soon as she moved, Elsie immediately broke free and clung to Garbisch even tighter, refusing to let go.
Jessica said softly, “Elsie, I know Garbisch has wronged you. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he does right by you. He won’t abandon you.”
Elsie’s voice was barely above a whisper as she clutched Garbisch’s clothes, her knuckles turning white. “Last night…”
Jessica’s heart ached unaccountably at the sight.
Jessica could only imagine how sensitive and vulnerable someone must feel after being plunged into blindness. Though she had never experienced it herself, she could deeply sense Elsie’s distress.
Jessica hastily explained, “I had an emergency last night, so Garbisch came back to check on me. That’s why he left. But tonight, he won’t be going
anywhere.”
Jessica again took Elsie’s hand and gently pulled it away from Garbisch’s waist. “Don’t you trust me? If I say Garbisch will do right by you, he definitely
will.”
She shot Garbisch a warning look, cutting off his protest. Then she turned to Elsie and said firmly, “Trust me, Garbisch isn’t going anywhere.”
Garbisch felt his temples throbbing with frustration. He had so much he wanted to say, but Jessica wouldn’t let him get a word out.
How did he suddenly become the one who wronged Elsie? And why was she now demanding he take responsibility?
All he’d done was pull her from the flames!
Jessica gently took Elsie’s wrist and helped her lie down. “Just relax, Elsie. Let me check your pulse.”
She turned and shot Garbisch a look.
Garbisch could only sigh helplessly and say, “Don’t worry, Princess Elsie. I’ll stay right here and won’t let any intruders harm you again.”
Only then did Elsie finally settle back down with some relief.
After taking her pulse, Jessica said softly, “Elsie, let me examine your eyes… Don’t worry, Garbisch is right here with you.”
Jessica fixed her gaze on Garbisch and said firmly, “Garbisch, hold Princess Elsie’s hand.”
“I…” Garbisch hesitated, looking troubled.
That saying kept echoing in his mind. ‘It’s improper for men and women to be so close. How could I possibly hold her hand?‘
“Come on, you’ve already held her in your arms. What’s the big deal about holding hands now?” Jessica glared at him.
“But I…” Garbisch knew what Jessica was getting at. Right now, calming Elsie was the priority.
But after this, there was no way he could explain his relationship with Elsie anymore.
But in the end, spurred by Jessica’s insistent gaze, Garbisch finally took Elsie’s hand and gently reassured her, “Don’t worry, Princess Elsie. I won’t leave you.”

She could no longer see anything. Her beautiful, large eyes were still as dark and luminous as ever, yet they stared blankly ahead, unable to focus on anything.
