Katie picked up a shrimp ceviche and took a big bite, trying to feign enjoyment. But as soon as she swallowed, her throat began to swell.
To hide her distress from Chandler, she forced a calm expression, shoving the rest of the ceviche into her mouth and swallowing quickly.
The allergic reaction worsened; she clenched her fists, desperately trying to mask her discomfort.
Chandler relished a moment of tranquility, a sense of satisfaction washing over him. He had been longing to talk to Helen, but Katie's constant interruptions had been increasingly frustrating.
Meanwhile, Abraham was entirely oblivious to Katie's allergy issues. Once he finished his meal, he set his plate aside and resumed the conversation.
"Chandler, my daughter is still quite young. If you two are serious about marriage and plan to spend more time together, I think it's essential for our families to meet sooner rather than later."
Unfazed, Chandler replied calmly, "Ms. Katie and I have only just started dating. Meeting the parents at this stage might spark unnecessary speculation. I think it's better to take some time to get to know each other before making any decisions."
After a moment's reflection, Abraham nodded, deciding not to push the matter further.
Meanwhile, Katie grew increasingly restless, fighting the urge to scratch her skin. "I even ate shrimp for you, Chandler. There's no way I'm letting you slip away!" she vowed silently.
…
"Yay!" Jenson shouted at the startup company. He sprang up from his chair, excited after another successful round with Germaine.
Taking a moment to compose himself, he picked up his phone and typed a message in the game chat: "Wow, you're amazing! You've improved so much. I wish we could play together like this forever!"
"Haha, sure! I wouldn't mind having another little sister," Germaine responded almost immediately.
Jenson's heart raced at the thought. He rushed over, spun Cody's chair around, and locked eyes with him. "Hey, you're the one who suggested this! If you tell her, we're both in hot water!"
"But I'm her nephew," Cody replied, smirking mischievously. "She might brush you off, but she'll never turn her back on me."
It looked like Jenson had miscalculated.
"Are you trying to set me up?" Jenson asked, snatching the gaming console from Cody's hands. "In that case, no more gaming for you! I'm confiscating all your consoles!"
Cody quickly backed off. "Hey, let's not act rashly! I'm not stupid; why would I want to make Aunt Germaine angry? I just wanted to remind you to reach out to Hexa soon."
"I'll take care of that," Jenson replied. "But first, I need your advice. How can I confess to your aunt in a way that guarantees she won't reject me?"
