Abraham cleared his throat with a dark expression, waking Katie up.
Katie stirred awake with a shiver. When she opened her eyes and saw Abraham, she thought she was dreaming.
After rubbing her eyes and confirming that it was her beloved father, she immediately got up and rushed over to embrace him.
"Dad, you're finally back. I miss you so much…" As Katie spoke, she cried.
Abraham's attitude instantly softened as he pulled her away and gently wiped the tears from her cheeks. He teased, "Aren't you too old to cry like this? I was just on a business trip for a week, and you already missed me so badly? What if you get married in the future?"
"I'm not going to get married; I want to be your precious daughter forever." Katie held his arm and rested her head against him, shamelessly acting cute.
Helen was going down the stairs when she caught sight of the scene, her eyes filled with endless indifference and derision.
He turned a blind eye to his biological daughter, who suffered and died at sea. Instead, he doted on someone else's daughter. If the real Kaylee were to witness this, it would surely break her heart.
Just like Kaylee, Helen was also not favored by her father. Although everything was resolved when Aaron passed away, she still could empathize with Kaylee.
Soon, Abraham also noticed "Kaylee". Before he came back, Diana and Katie had exaggeratedly recounted everything she had done at home in the past two days to him on the phone.
Abraham was still a kind father a moment ago, but his expression instantly changed when he saw her. "Look at how haggard your sister is—it's all because of you."
"It's indeed a good deed that I helped to train them, but you don't have to praise me in a hurry," Helen said lightly.
"Praise you? If it weren't for your mother's sake, I would have beaten you to death." Abraham's nostrils flared with anger, and his white eyebrows raised in fury.
"You disappeared for half a year without any news. Once you're back, you treat Diana and Katie like they're nothing. I see you've really grown bold."
With that, she stood up with the cup and was about to go upstairs to pack her things.
"Wait." Abraham stopped her and gave in reluctantly. "As your father, I won't hold it against you. Since you know that you're wrong, you can just stay at home for now."
If this were to escalate to Kaylee's grandfather, he wouldn't be able to explain himself.
"Dad." Katie was dissatisfied and swayed his arm, urging him to give her the justice she deserved.
"Stop it." Abraham couldn't afford to offend Helen, so he could only vent his frustration on Katie. "I just got back from a business trip. Can't you let me have some peace?
He continued, "Isn't your piano exam around the corner? How's your practice going?"
