As the car disappeared into the distance, the woman raised her gaze slightly. In the rearview mirror, Chandler's figure seemed small, yet his sadness loomed large.
…
After waiting by the sidewalk for a while, Chandler finally turned back toward the venue when someone came searching for him.
In the VIP lounge, representatives from the three factions occupied their respective corners of the sofas. The atmosphere was thick with tension, and the attentive wait staff remained on high alert.
At the center sat Charles Calloway, the vice president of the Jewelers' Association in Grand Cathay.
To his left were Fiona and Zac, while Chandler and Kendrick faced them from the opposite side, the tension between both parties palpable.
"Ms. Cunningham and Mr. Zac, I trust you know why I've called you here," Charles said, breaking the stalemate.
"Of course. You want us to agree to a truce, right? Just to clarify—if C&S Signature Jewels declares bankruptcy, I'll step aside immediately," Fiona replied, her disdain unmistakable.
Kendrick scoffed, rolling his eyes. He turned away, unimpressed by her bravado.
Johnny had already ruined his family's legacy, and now Fiona was trying to sabotage his chance for a fresh start. How was that fair?
Charles interjected, trying to mediate. "In business, fostering harmony is essential for prosperity. If we can turn conflict into collaboration, wouldn't that elevate the jewelry industry in Grand Cathay to new heights?"
"Are you seriously asking me to join forces with them? That's never going to happen!" Fiona seethed, her eyes ablaze with fury. "They're responsible for my father's death! I will stop at nothing to destroy them!"
Kendrick let out a chilling laugh, his voice dripping with mockery. "Isn't it ironic? The person who actually killed your father is your ex-husband. Why not take responsibility for your poor judgment instead of blaming us? When it comes to passing the buck, it seems we can't hold a candle to you."
"What did you just say?" Fiona yelled, slamming her hands on the table as she stood up. "If it weren't for Helen's manipulations, I would never have been involved with Helios! This is all her fault. She hides in the shadows while I take the blame. We'll see how long she can stay hidden once I ruin all of you!"
After Fiona's blatant disrespect, Charles abandoned any pretense of politeness and adopted a more authoritative tone.
"What I said may not carry weight right now, but the association has rules. In the absence of the president, the members can vote to escalate this to the authorities, which means your licenses can still be revoked. If you don't believe me, feel free to test it, Ms. Cunningham."
"Let's put it to the test, then! I have more than enough money; buying votes is no concern for me!" Fiona retorted, completely disregarding the seriousness of the situation.
She added, "Do you honestly believe someone who hasn't sold even a few pieces of jewelry can lecture me on running a business? Just wait! I'll apply for membership in the Jewelers' Association, and then we'll see if you can actually kick me out of this industry!"
With that, she dismissed the conversation and stormed off.
Disguised as Ronald, Zac followed quietly, not wanting to draw attention to himself.
The door slammed behind Fiona, each resounding thud striking Charles like a sharp slap to the face.
