Shaun straightened on the couch and replied to the messages.
Mr. Diamond: "Are you at the beach in Lumiville?"
Princess in Flats: "Yes. How do you know?"
Shaun suddenly had an idea. He inched closer to Bernard and asked, "Are you free tomorrow night? I'm going to meet a friend I made online. I want you to come with me."
Seeing the surprised look Bernard shot him, Shaun explained, "I met a woman online. She's a salesperson working at a jewelry shop in Jedburgh. I've had a change of taste recently. Now, I prefer naive and hardworking women."
"You? Resorting to online dating? Just how desperate are you?" Bernard couldn't believe his ears.
Back then, Shaun would say that all the women in the world would fall for him as long as he paid them enough.
"I haven't met her in real life, so she isn't after my money." Shaun sounded certain when he spoke.
"My grandfather dislikes those women, and I don't feel like marrying any of them. I was just having fun with them anyway. If I were to marry, I'd marry a woman who's as excellent as Hera. Sadly, there aren't many women out there who are as good as her."
The corners of Bernard's mouth tilted upward into a smile at the compliment. "She might not even have eyes for you even if you managed to find someone like her."
"I know, right?" Shaun wasn't mad at Bernard for saying that. An exceptional woman like Hera was way out of Shaun's reach.
"That's why I'm trying to find a woman who suits me. It's so hard to find one in real life because of my fame. The women who approached me before were all after my money. There was one woman I met at the bar. She pretended to be all naive and claimed that her family was poor and that her father was sick, so she had to work at the bar to earn 50 grand to pay for his medical fees.
Bernard felt a corner of his mouth twitching because of how preposterous the entire incident sounded. Eventually, he commented, "Your way of finding yourself a spouse is wrong."
"I know! That's why I've decided that I shouldn't look for one around me. I told myself I needed to find a potential girlfriend online. I'll meet her in person if I think we're compatible."
Although the few hundred thousand dollars weren't of any significance to him, he refused to be lied to and taken advantage of by any woman ever again.
Bernard warned, "You can't even find a trustworthy woman in real life. What makes you think you can find one online? Dating apps can't be trusted."
"Nah. I've chatted with this woman called 'Princess in Flats' for almost six months. She's much more honest and trustworthy than most of my exes. What's left is for me to meet her in person."
Shaun patted his chest confidently and said, "Come with me tomorrow night if you don't believe me."
