"Miss, that woman with tuberculosis is dead. Her husband's furious and making a big fuss. He keeps demanding an explanation," Camila repeated.
After hearing Camila's explanation, Giselle did not even feel sympathetic. Instead, she felt that the man was being unreasonable.
"His wife already had late-stage tuberculosis and even exhibited active phlegm-positive symptoms. She couldn't have lived for long since she didn't receive any treatment. If we hadn't brought her here to Jedburgh and let her experience what it was like living in the city, she would've died in the desolate countryside a long time ago. What's there to be upset about?"
"Exactly. That's what I told him as well, but he refused to listen. He kept insisting that we lied to them and even delayed his wife's treatment, leading to her death. He even said that if we don't give him an answer by tonight, he'll put his wife's corpse in front of the Killian residence," Camila added.
Giselle remained unmoved. "His wife was so useless for dying before I could even carry out my plan. I've not even asked him to reimburse my loss, yet he's got the guts to even ask me for an explanation?"
They had initially sought out this patient and her husband to cause trouble at Hera's clinic. Then, Giselle would order someone else to file a report so that Hera's clinic could no longer continue operating in Jedburgh.
In the end, Giselle was grounded, causing the plan to be delayed. Hence, no one ordered the couple to cause a scene.
By now, Bernard had even proposed to Hera. If the patient and her husband went to make a fuss at the clinic, it would be rather bold of them to go against the couple. But it wasn't as if it would be impossible to cause trouble. However, Giselle never imagined that the useless woman would die so soon.
"I've already said whatever I could to the man, but he's just an unreasonable farmer. Besides, I believe that his family pressured him to get some money out of us," Camila said.
"Wasn't a hundred thousand dollars enough for them?" Giselle retorted.
Camila dared not to say a word. Giselle did give a hundred thousand dollars to convince the couple to remain patient and keep the matter hush.
However, once the money passed through Camila's hands, she only gave them 40 grand and pocketed the remaining 60 grand.
Camila had to take on the risk of contracting the disease by handling the task assigned by Giselle. It was worth 60 grand.
"Okay." After hearing Giselle's reckless response, Camila suddenly felt like the two million dollars she mentioned earlier was far too much.
The farmer had only asked for a million dollars, but Camila added on another one million, hoping to cheat Giselle of that amount.
Camila was always at the receiving end of Giselle's rage while working for her. It was only right that she pocketed some money since the Killians were wealthy. She never expected Giselle to outright reject the amount.
"Also, don't come back to work as long as you've not recovered from your cough," Giselle added. Her tone was filled with disgust as if she feared Camila spreading the germs to her.
Although Camila noticed Giselle's disdain, she nonchalantly hummed in response before leaving.
After exiting the backyard, Camila gave the farmer a call and said unkindly, "Ms. Killian said that you won't get a single cent. Come and make a scene if you like." After speaking, she disconnected the call.
