Chapter 354
The more Sana thought about it, the more certain she became that her earlier decision had been correct.
Someone as good as Wesley shouldn’t have to settle for a lifetime of compromise because
“What do you mean?” Wesley studied Sana’s face–a smile playing at her lips, but her eyes:
of her.
withming with sadness. A sinking feeling settled in his chest.
Sana straightened in her chair, hands folded primly in her lap. She gathered her courage and met his gaze with painful earnestness.
She said, “I mean, Wesley, you don’t need to pity me just because we slept together. I don’t want you forcing yourself to like me out of some misplaced sense of responsibility.”
She took a shaky breath. “Yes, I had feelings for you before, but I’m not pathetic enough to use my body to trap you into caring about me. So no–I won’t be your girlfriend.”
When the words left her mouth, Sana grabbed her purse and bolted.
She was afraid that if she hesitated even one more second, she’d change her mind.
Wesley was such a wonderful man, her first love no less, and he’d just confessed his feelings to her–she was terrified she wouldn’t be able to resist!
“Sana, stop right there!” Wesley, who had nearly been driven to his breaking point by her words, instinctively shot up from his chair and chased after her when he saw her making her escape.
A group of students happened to be entering the café just then, momentarily blocking Wesley’s path.
By the time he pushed through them and made it outside, Sana had already vanished.
Wesley stood on the steps, watching the endless stream of traffic flow past. The thought of Sana–convinced he only wanted to “do the right thing” and martyr herself because of it–made him laugh bitterly.
In all his years, he’d never encountered something so utterly ridiculous. “Sana, you really are something else!”
Just then, a car slowly pulled up in front of him. The window rolled down, revealing Jessica’s slightly surprised face. “Dr. Finch, it really is you! Still waiting for Sana?”
Jessica had gotten held up at work and stayed late, but she remembered Sana leaving the office right on time,
She’d spotted Wesley from a distance while driving and thought her eyes were playing tricks on her,
Getting closer, she realized it actually was him.
“I caught up with her.” Wesley pulled his gaze away from the street and paused before responding.
“Where’s Sana?” Jessica scanned the area, but there was no sign of her anywhere.
“She ran off.” Wesley’s voice was ice–cold.
Jessica fell silent. She wanted to ask what he meant by “ran off,” but seeing the dark expression on Wesley’s face, she decided Instead, she quickly changed the subject.
“Have you eaten dinner yet, Dr. Finch? I know a great restaurant nearby. How about I treat you?”
Wesley considered the offer for a moment and then agreed. He wanted to use this opportunity to get more information about Sana.
s better not to push.
