Chapter 291
Chapter 291
Brian arrived at the apartment well past nine, a heavy bag of food in hand.
He glanced at his watch, and his raised hand hesitated in mid–air.
He thought, ‘It’s so late. Would Jessi already be asleep? What if I knock and wake her?‘
Just as he was debating whether to knock, the door suddenly opened from within.
Jessica appeared, carrying the trash bag she had been about to take downstairs. She froze, surprised to find Brian stariding outside at this hour.
“Let me take that,” Brian said quickly, stepping forward and firmly taking the bag from her hands.
Jessica struggled briefly but realized she couldn’t win and reluctantly let him take it.
“What are you doing here so late?” she asked, planting herself firmly in front of the door to prevent him from coming in uninvited.
If he got inside, it would be hard to get him out again.
Brian gave a faint, somewhat wry smile at her obvious wariness.
“I was inspecting the factory out in the suburbs today. On my way back, I stopped by the street fair. There were some decent food and dessert stalls, sol picked up a little something for you.”
He held out the bag toward her.
“You actually went to a street fair?” Jessica looked at him in genuine surprise.
Brian, who rarely ventured into shopping malls, usually had things delivered straight from brands, or she would prepare them for him.
“I’m just a regular guy, Jessi,” he replied with a half–smile, a hint of resignation in his voice.
Jessica said nothing, simply took the bag and motioned for him to leave.
“You’ve delivered the food. You can go now.”
She had no intention of arguing over whether or not to accept his gifts.
If it eased his mind, she was willing to indulge him as it didn’t cost her anything.
Thinking this, she turned to go back inside.
“Wait,” Brian called out.
She stopped, barely hiding her impatience as she turned back. “What now?”

Suddenly, a delicate crystal bracelet appeared in front of her eyes.
Her expression softened noticeably.
Jessica reached out to touch it, running her fingers over the intricate design and admiring its beauty. “Where did you find this?”
“I saw it at the street fair,” Brian said, his voice hesitant but sincere. “It looked new and cute. I thought you might like it.”
Jessica was stunned. She hadn’t expected Brian to remember her taste so precisely.
It brought back memories of when they first met, back when he used to pick out gifts that matched her aesthetic perfectly.
