Chapter 302
“New haul? Let me try some,” Gabriela said, her hunger catching up with her as she reached out eagerly.
But Sana dodged her hand and dropped the entire bag in front of Jessica.
“Not mine. Brian brought them over. Jessi, you deal with it,” she said flatly, obviously annoyed, and turned to leave immediately.
Jessica raised an eyebrow, puzzled. “Sana, what’s wrong? Did someone upset you?”
“No, it’s just… stuff,” Sana muttered, lowering her head, her expression stiff and unreadable.
Jessica was about to press further, but Gabriela jumped in first. “Wait, you said Brian was here? Is he still downstairs?”
Sana shook her head. “No, he probably left already. Why? You need something from him?”
Gabriela rolled her eyes. “Just wanted to ask what circus act he’s pulling now. Social media is swamped with him and Jessi. He really doesn’t care about making a fool of himself, does he?”
Then she turned to Jessica with a sudden spark in her eye. “You know what, Jessi? You should go online and post a divorce announcement. See how he reacts.”
With the internet eating up the fantasy of Brian and Jessica as the perfect couple, a sudden revelation that they’d actually divorced long ago would hit like a bombshell. People would feel deceived, convinced it had all been a publicity stunt on Brian’s part.
“If that happens, he might finally get hit by some real backlash,” Gabriela continued. “It could even damage the Atkinson Group’s image. And if it comes to that, Jessi, well, that’s a little payback, isn’t it?”
Sana’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Gabi’s right! Jessi, say the word and I’ll draft the statement right now.”
To her, this was the perfect move to set the record straight, and bring Brian down a notch in the process.
But just as she was mentally composing the announcement, Jessica calmly said, “No.”
“Why not?” Sana stared at her, shocked.
She couldn’t understand it, wondering, ‘Why pass up such a perfect opportunity for revenge? Doesn’t Jessica feel anything about Brian’s betrayal?‘
Gabriela, who knew Jessica a little better, gave her a searching look. “Jessi… are you still not over him?”
“No!” Jessica answered instantly.
But her defensiveness only made Gabriela more certain of her suspicions. She sighed softly.
Jessica, unsettled by the look in her friend’s eyes, tried to explain. “I just don’t want any more ties to him. The online noise is already dying down. If I stay quiet, this will all blow over soon.
“If I post anything now, it’ll only stir things up again, and it might even drag both our companies into it.”
She paused, then added firmly, “That’s something absolutely won’t allow. I won’t let personal drama hurt my family’s business. Can you understand that?”
She truly didn’t want to cause her parents any more trouble.
“It still feels unfair,” Sana muttered, visibly frustrated.
Jessica smiled, picked up the project folder at her side, and gave it a small wave.
