Brian pulled a tissue to dry Jacob’s tears and softly soothed him, “I’ve made many mistakes too. How about we improve together?”

Jacob believed him, finally stopping his tears. He no longer pestered Brian for the homemade breakfast and instead asked Brian to bring all his textbooks the next time he visited.

“Why the sudden interest in studying?” Brian hadn’t been strict about Jacob’s schoolwork, and since the hospitalization, he’d lowered his expectations

even more.

“Wanda in the next ward was reading, so I want to read too. Then, I can play with her later,” Jacob said, casually making up an excuse based on yesterday’s unfulfilled goal.

In truth, he wanted to study hard so Jessica would see his changes and progress.

“Did you go outside?” Brian frowned and looked at Jim upon hearing this.

Jim looked at Jacob in depression, mentally blaming him for blurting it out.

Jacob quickly defended Jim, “Brian, don’t blame Jim. I insisted on going out. Lying in the ward all day is so boring. Besides, the nurse saw me when I came back and didn’t say anything.”

He tugged on Brian’s sleeve. “I don’t want to stay in the ward all the time. Can you let Jim take me for a walk every day? Otherwise, I’ll die of boredom.”

Brian first gave him a stern look. “Nonsense–you’re still a kid; how could you die?” Then he stood up and said, “I’ll go ask the doctor first. If they agree, I’ll allow it.”

After the incident where indulging Jacob had led to his hospitalization, Brian had become much more cautious in raising him.

“Okay.” Jacob knew Brian cared about him, so he didn’t fuss and instead watched Brian leave obediently. Then he asked Jim to take out a phone and play videos of first–grade elementary school lessons.

Jim looked at him in surprise. He’d thought Jacob was just trying to please Brian, but it seemed Jacob was serious.

Jacob ignored Jim’s reaction and began stud

intently.

Meanwhile, Brian consulted the doctor and confirmed that Jacob’s condition had improved significantly, so he approved the request for Jacob to get out of bed and move around.

After spending some time studying with Jacob I playing together, he left the hospital for the office.

On the way, thinking about how increasingly distant Jessica had been towards him recently, Brian suddenly asked Jackson, “Are you sure Madeline is still abroad?”

Brian had previously asked Jackson to investigate Jessica’s recent whereabouts and found nothing unusual, but the fact that Jessica was pushing him away more and more made him suspect Madeline might be up to something again.

“Mr. Atkinson, this is a video our team just sent from abroad this morning,” Jackson said, opening an email from his inbox and handing the phone to Brian.

Brian watched the footage of Madeline getting out of a car, holding a resume, and entering a renowned foreign company for an interview. He felt relieved, hoping she would finally settle abroad and stop causing trouble.

“Find a way to get that company to hire her,” Brian said.
