By the time he finished his work and arrived at the ward, Jacob had nearly finished the breakfast Jim had bought. Seeing Brian enter with breakfast, Jacob asked eagerly, “Dad, are you not busy today?”

Meeting Jacob’s expectant gaze, Brian felt a twinge of guilt thinking about how Jessica had always taken care of Jacob when he was sick before. He nodded and said, “I cleared my morning schedule to spend time with you specifically.”

Then he opened the Thermos Lunch Box. “I made you breakfast. Want to eat a bit more?”

Jacob nodded without hesitation.

Jim hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should mention an important thing. Brian glanced at him and asked, “Is there an issue?”

Jim quickly said cautiously, “The doctor said Mr. Jacob Atkinson needs a regular diet during his hospital stay, especially no overeating.”

Brian’s hand froze as he was setting the cutlery.

Jacob grabbed his hand. “Dad, I’ll only eat a little. It’s been ages since I had your homemade food.”

Actually, he’d rarely eaten Brian’s cooking. Brian hadn’t known how to cook before, and later he’d mostly only cooked for Jessica.

But Brian firmly pulled his hand away and said, “No, we have to listen to the doctor.”

He gently stroked Jacob’s head and added, “Sorry, Jacob. I can’t focus on taking care of you like your mom did. For your health, I have to strictly follow the professionals‘ advice. Don’t be angry, okay?”

Jacob had been about to throw a tantrum, but when he heard Brian mention Jessica, his attention shifted instantly. “Dad, did Mom really take care of me wholeheartedly before?”

“Yes. Your mom had a very successful career, and many people at the company admired her,” said Brian.
