I was so lost in the video that Leo’s voice barely registered at first.
“Beth–Beth–Elizabeth!”
His third, louder call jolted me out of my thoughts.
“We’re here,” he said as the car came to a stop.
I quickly powered off my tablet and stepped out of the car, walking briskly ahead of him.
Once inside, I rushed to the bathroom, desperate to strip away the layers of makeup and escape the constricting grip of my formal clothes.
I sat down in front of the old piano, which I hadn’t used for a long time, and wiped the dust off the top of it, longing to remember what it felt like back then, but then I noticed that Leo was already sitting on the edge of the bed in his pyjamas.
