I Was the Stepping Stone novel Chapter 76

Chapter 6

At 6 o’clock in the evening, Andrew went home to pick up Katherine for the dinner party.

She came with her period, feeling sore all over her body, and said with a distant look, “I feel very

uncomfortable with my period, so I won’t go.”

“My dear wife, there will be a distinguished gentleman from the capital, Mr. Gardner, attending the dinner

tonight. Can you please endure it?” Andrew picked up the suit from the coffee table and sat down to help her

change clothes, coaxing her softly, “After meeting him, I will have someone send you back first.”

She avoided his touch and got up to go upstairs, saying, “I’ll change by myself.”

Andrew saw that she resisted his touch and was momentarily surprised. He said, “Maria, prepare some nutritious drinks for Madam to take on her journey.”

The two of them arrived at the banquet venue and came face to face with Sarah, who was being surrounded

by several noble ladies as she walked over.

Katherine pretended not to see and walked past indifferently, hearing Andrew’s displeased tone. “Who allowed you to wear the dress style that my wife had chosen? Change it immediately!”

Sarah was shaken by his yelling, and tears streamed down her face.

“Never mind.” Katherine couldn’t be bothered to watch them act, and coldly said, “Andrew, take me to see Mr.

Gardner.”

“Okay, have some ginger tea slowly. Be careful not to burn yourself.” Andrew unscrewed the thermos and

handed it to Katherine with a gentle expression.

He turned and looked at Sarah, his face as cold as ice, saying, “If there is another time, I will never forgive!”

“Oh, Mr. Thompson finally decided to bring your beloved wife out?”

A man in a white suit walked briskly, holding a glass of red wine, and laughed heartily, “Mrs. Thompson, do

you remember me? On the day of your wedding, we played cards together.”

Katherine saw him and suddenly realized why Andrew insisted on bringing her to the event tonight. Her voice was indifferent as she said, “Of course I remember, you invested thirty million in his company and helped him

secure his first hundred million order.”

“Your husband deserves my investment for his gratitude.” Mr. Gardner looked at Andrew with admiration and joked, “Every time he sees me, he takes out your marriage certificate to show off that he married a good wife.”

“Being able to marry Katherine was my blessing, she was the light that illuminated my dark life,” Andrew said

earnestly.

Katherine secretly sneered.

If she didn’t know, he had already gotten married to Sarah.

She almost believed the man’s hypocritical display of deep affection.

He married her, using her desire to obtain investments, without the slightest trace of love involved.

She had fought hard for this love game for eight years, but Sarah effortlessly won it, how ironic!

“Rarely did we get to see Katherine, shall we play cards for a while?” Mr. Gardner suggested.

“Okay.”

“No good.” Katherine didn’t want to pretend with Andrew, her tone was cold. “Sorry, Mr. Gardner, I’m not feeling well, so I’ll go back first.”

She ignored Andrew’s astonished gaze, turned around and walked away, but he caught up with her and held her hand. “Don’t be angry, Katherine. I have already punished Sarah severely, and you will never see her again.”

“You go and do your own thing, I don’t care,” she coldly pushed him away and entered the women’s restroom.

Katherine finished washing her hands and walked out, only to be stopped by Sarah.

The woman held her arms tightly and had a cold expression. “Andrew was just protecting you today to secure Mr. Gardner’s trust. After all, he holds a project worth billions in his hands.”

“You are only worth this much, once I give birth to our child, he will kick you out!”
