I Was the Stepping Stone novel Chapter 52

Chapter 6

Listening to Jordan’s voice.

Melanie found it funny.

No wonder, every time she got extremely angry in the past, Jordan would find ways to coax her.

Sometimes it was giving a gift, sometimes it was saying a few sweet words.

After coaxing, he returned to his previous indifferent attitude.

Before, she was kept in the dark, thinking that he didn’t accept her because she hadn’t done well enough. Now, looking back, it wasn’t that she hadn’t done well enough, but rather that Jordan wanted her to be more

obedient for a longer period of time.

She now feels inexplicably fortunate, that choosing to marry someone else was the right decision…

I took the keys and went downstairs, then I got into a taxi and was about to go back.

Melanie, however, saw another figure, Danica, through the taxi window.

Sitting in the taxi, Melanie saw Danica make a phone call. One minute later, Jordan came down personally to

pick her up and embraced her. “How did you come in such cold weather?” he asked.

“I missed you, can’t I come and see you?”

“Go! Go! Go!”

Jordan gently embraced Danica and carried her upstairs.

Just a few steps later, Danica’s shoelace came undone.

Jordan didn’t hesitate and squatted down to tie Danica’s shoelaces, with tenderness in their eyes.

Melanie’s pupils contracted as she watched Jordan, who was tying his shoelaces. In the past, it had always

been her who did these humble and pleasing tasks, so she never expected that Jordan, who had always been

superior, would also tie someone else’s shoelaces.

Jordan’s friend, who came out to smoke, was also surprised when he saw this scene. “Who would have

thought that our esteemed CEO of the Tye Group would actually help someone tie their shoelaces…”

Jordan, however, was very displeased and ordered Ethan to quit smoking.

“Danica couldn’t stand the smell of smoke, so she would go far away to smoke.”

“Also, do not use foul language towards Danica. If you dare to scare Danica, I will make sure you regret it!”

Ethan was scared by Jordan’s warning and quickly ran away.

Melanie, who was sitting in the rented car, watched as Jordan wholeheartedly defended Danica in front of

their friends, which made her feel even more ridiculous in comparison.

Over the years, no matter how his friends made jokes in front of him, Jordan remained unaffected, as if he

were an outsider.

And when it came to Danica, when a friend just smoked a cigarette and said a dirty word, Jordan’s angry expression was as if he wanted to skin and draw the tendons of that friend.

So…

What else did you not understand?

When I got back home, it was already 2 o’clock in the morning.

Melanie tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. By the time Jordan returned, it was already the next

morning.

The house was empty, and many of Melanie’s belongings had mysteriously disappeared.

Jordan couldn’t help but ask, “Where are your things?”

Melanie casually made up an excuse, “A lot of things were old, so I threw them away.”

There was nothing wrong with these words, but Jordan still felt that something was not quite right.

However, he was about to marry Danica soon, so it was indeed inappropriate for Melanie to live here.

If Danica had known, she would have definitely cried. She has always been more fragile compared to Melanie,

who is strong.

After thinking for a moment, Jordan said in a low voice, “Since we’re tidying up, let’s tidy up properly.

Melanie nodded and didn’t say much.

Jordan saw that Melanie didn’t say more words and held back the words that were about to come out of his

mouth.
