Chapter 56

Hearing her words, Janie was speechless.

She looked at the baskets of potatoes she had dug up and remained silent.

[This is justI don’t think Emily is suited to be on reality shows.]

[Even though Janie seems idle, she digs up just as much as anyone else.]

Noticing Janie’s silence, Emily felt triumphant and continued, Why don’t you join us, Janie? This job isn’t suitable for girls like us.

Her words made Janic frown. She looked at Emily and said, Why isn’t it suitable for girls? Just because you’re lazy doesn’t mean you can drag all girls into it. Girls are diligent and brave.”

Hearing her words, Emily stiffened and replied, That’s not what I meant. I just think that you might as well join us since you’re not really trying. Plus, Jackson is doing great anyway

I’m not working hard enough?Janie asked with a blank expression. How do you know I haven’t been working hard?

Emily chuckled and replied, I don’t mean to badmouth you, but you really don’t look like you’re putting in much effort.

Janie frowned slightly and said, Isn’t it because you’ve been holding an umbrella that is blocking your view?

Emily’s smile stiffened when she heard Janie’s words.

Janie raised her head and continued, I dug all those over there.

As Xena and Emily looked over, they froze

on the

spot.

[Gosh, what does she mean by it’s not suitable for girls? Janie and Molly are just fine. Meanwhile, they do nothing yet act so selfrighteous. Stop stereotyping girls!]

[I like how sarcastic Janie is by saying that the umbrella is blocking their view.]

On the other hand, Janie pretended to sigh and said, I’m clearly working so hard, yet I’m being slandered by someone who does nothing. That’s just wrong.

Janie, that’s not what I meantEmily said stiffly.

Janie continued, Jackson did a great job and told me to rest well. However, I couldn’t really just sit back and do nothing. The least I can do is help out a little. As for joining you guys, I don’t think we have much in common, so let’s just forget about it.

Emily stayed silent since she wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible.

Plus, she was at a loss for words too.

On the other hand, Xena lowered her head and remained silent.

She wondered if Janie was deliberately undermining her, saying that she was enjoying herself while the latter cared for her brother.

Janie looked at Emily with a frown and said, I’m curious. Xena isn’t doing anything since she has her brothers to help her. What about you? Where are your potatoes?

I… I’m not good at diggingEmily said stiffly.
