Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Janie was fully absorbed in enjoying her meal, paying no attention to anything else.
Meanwhile, Jackson kept glancing at the restroom while encouraging Janie to eat more, seeming really busy.
Janie felt a sense of helplessness but remained silent.
As they were finishing up, Ryan burst in.
Jackson couldn’t help but look at him.
Ryan looked anxious, clearly a bit flustered.
“Mr. Jenkins, what’s going on?” David asked with concern.
Ryan frowned and said, “Jason and the others aren’t doing well.”
David was taken aback.
He wondered what Emily had done, as he initially thought they were just suffering from a little stomach upset, but now it seemed there was a bigger issue.

In that moment, he was extremely grateful he hadn’t eaten her food, as not only would he owe her a favor, but he would also have to eat something terrible or even deadly!
Without stopping to chat, Ryan headed straight to the director.
Janie seemed completely detached, not reacting at all to Ryan’s words, while Jackson remained calm and continued with his task.
So even though David had a million questions and was dying to gossip with them, he had to hold it all in.
David tried to suppress his curiosity, but it was challenging.
Finally, he couldn’t resist asking, “Janie, Jackson, aren’t you at all curious?”
Jackson looked at him, puzzled. “Curious about what?”
David was momentarily speechless, and then he said, “What’s going on with them? Why is it so serious?”
Jackson replied earnestly, “If you’re really interested, why not check it out yourself? But don’t forget, you still have to deal with your own dishes.”
With that, Jackson tidied up the dishes he and Janie had used and happily went to wash them.
David was speechless, thinking he might as well wash his own dishes first.
By the time Ryan returned with the director and a few others, only Janie was left.
Seeing Janie’s total indifference sparked a wave of anger within him.
He glared at Janie and accused, “Janie! Are you really so indifferent to Xena?”
The director and the others were taken aback, wondering if there could really be a connection between the three of them.
Curiosity flared up among them as they became acutely aware of any potential gossip.

They discreetly checked the camera.
To capture the situation, it had been turned on again, though it wasn’t being streamed live.
Janie didn’t say a word.
She frowned slightly, looking at him as if he were foolish.
She couldn’t even be bothered to respond to his question.
Realizing he had overstepped, Ryan decided to ask the production team not to air this.
Taking a deep breath, he said, “Come with me to see Xena.”
This completely left Janie speechless.
“I’m not going,” she replied coldly.
Ryan felt his frustration rise again. “You!”
“What’s wrong with that?” Janie was done with it and retorted.

After all these years, she had learned to keep her words to a minimum; if she didn’t agree, she simply wouldn’t engage.
But now, she still had to deal with this unreasonable person. “You okay? Why should I go with you? Honestly, I don’t care about Xena, and I don’t care about you either–we’re not connected. So stop pointing fingers at me.”
She smiled slightly, emphasizing each word. “Got it?”
Ryan was stunned.
The director and the others were also taken aback.
Janie added kindly, “Just a reminder, you really shouldn’t be here right now.”
At her words, everyone snapped back to reality, realizing they needed to check on Xena and the others!
The thought made them anxious.
Ryan shot Janie a frustrated look, clenching his teeth. “Director, let’s go!”
The director and the others nodded and hurriedly walked away, feeling their heads spin at the thought that it was only the first day of recording and the guests were already in trouble!
Janie glanced at them before lowering her gaze and taking out a book.
Before long, the staff helped Xena, Jason, and the others over.
Xena and Jason were in the worst shape, barely able to stand with pale faces and disheveled hair and clothes, while a faint odor hung in the air.
Emily looked a bit better than them but was still exhausted and weak, clearly having gone through a lot.

The production team wore worried expressions.
They hurriedly half–carried, half–dragged Xena and Jason into the house.

As they passed by Janie, Ryan paused.
He wasn’t ready to back down. “Aren’t you going to check on them?

Janic found him very strange, as his tone always seemed odd, as if there were some deep connection between her and them.
She had intended to go, but now she didn’t want to anymore.
Seeing her indifferent attitude reignited Ryan’s anger.
Just as he was about to speak, Jackson and David returned from washing dishes.
Seeing Ryan seemingly ready to confront his weak, helpless sister, Jackson was furious. “Ryan! What are you doing?”
Ryan’s anger was suddenly extinguished.
