Chapter 142
In the end. Spencer couldn’t bring himself to scold them.

They know their limits. A little roughhousing doesn’t hurt. As long as they’re happy… And if it makes Janie smile, they’re doing something right, Spencer thought to himself.
He quickly turned his focus back to Janie, no longer interested in looking at the Night Guards.
Janie poked her head out from Spencer’s embrace, shaking her head with a playful tsk. “What on earth are you all doing?”
Seeing that Spencer wasn’t going to reprimand them. Janie took matters intes her own hands, and the Night Guards quickly responded.
One of them, with a pitiful look on his face, tears streaming down his cheeks and snot running from his nose, cried out, “Miss Janic, you have to save me! They’re going to beat me to death!”
The Night Guards gnashed their teeth, not the least bit remorseful.
Janie looked at him, silent for a moment.
His face was swollen, his lips bruised, dark circles under his eyes. He looked even worse than when he had fought with John, barely recognizable.
Janie squinted, trying to make out he was Noah. ‘Poor guy, she thought.
With a sly smile, Janie pretended not to recognize him and asked, “Who are you?”
Spencer’s lips curled into a subtle smile.
The Night Guards couldn’t help but laugh.
Noah, who always prided himself on being Janie’s chief follower, was now so unrecognizable that Janie couldn’t even place
him.
Noah could hardly believe that such a cruel statement was coming from Janie. His heart shattered into pieces, tears streaming down his face as he stammered. “Miss Janie, it’s me… Noah…
I’m Noah, your chief follower, the one you trust and value the most, Noah raged in his mind as he wondered.
Janie fought to hold back her laughter and nodded coolly. “Oh, it’s you.”
Upon hearing this, Noah couldn’t contain his frustration. “Miss Janie, they went too far! They ganged up on me… just because they’re jealous that I’m close to you. It’s awful!”
As he spoke, the pain from his wounds intensified.
The other Night Guards were momentarily stunned. What a shameless fool, they thought, but they bit their tongues, resisting the urge to curse him out.
Janie took a quick glance at the others. Although they looked a little better than Noah, they weren’t in much better shape. She seemed to have a sudden realization. “So it’s because of that again, huh?”
She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and sighed. “My charisma is just too much to handle. I can’t help it.”
Spencer chuckled softly. “Yes”
Noah stood frozen for a moment. Although what Janie had said was absolutely true, it wasn’t exactly what he had been

“Miss Janie should have scolded them for their terrible behavior, Noah thought bitterly.
The intense gazes of the others made him feel like he was being pierred by daggers

I should have known better than to act so cocky… No, it’s their petty jealousy. I didn’t do anything wrong, Noah thought to
himself.
