Chapter 116
Jackson scoffed. “The Jenkins family, he muttered. “They’re nothing but garbage” As if anyone would actually be swayed by their so–called goodwill.
Ryan stepped forward, ready to say something, but before he could, Janie locked her gaze on Xena and said, “Are you sure about that?”
Xena froze, her confidence wovering under Janie’s steady stare. Regret washed over her in waves..
She should’ve never approached Janie in the first place. Now, with Jackson solidly backing her, Janie had no reason to hold back. Xena was worried that Janie would say something damaging–like cutting ties with the family.
Xena’s smile wavered, but she managed a weak, “O–of course I’m sure.
Janie pretended to think it over before giving a bright, almost taunting smile. “Alright, if you say so. Just don’t regret it later”
Emily chimed in with disdain, Janie, don’t rush into it. This is a big deal-an opportunity most people would kill for.”
Jason jumped in to back her up. “Yeah, exactly! If Xena says she’ll deliver, she means it. You should really think this through”
Jackson’s glare shot their way, cold enough to make them immediately clam up.
David smirked. “Why don’t you two just mind your own business?”
Emily and Jason looked away, their faces stiff as they forced polite smiles.
But Janie didn’t spare them so much as a glance. Her focus stayed on Xena. “Are you sure you want me to say it? Don’t come crying to me afterward.”
Xena’s chest tightened. Her panic overflowed, wishing she could immediately rush to cover Janie’s mouth.
Xena wondered. What is Janie planning to do? Reveal my true parentage?
Her hands trembled as she tried to keep her voice steady. “Janie… maybe we should talk about this in private? There’s no need to take up everyone’s time.”
[Wow, Janie’s really something. Xena was just being polite, and Janie ran with it!]
[Hold up, Janie’s not in the wrong here. Stop throwing shade all the time. Even if she did say something, she’d still be well. within her rights.
[Wait, what? Why is Xena acting so weird? What’s the secret between them? And why hasn’t anyone figure. detectives are seriously letting me down!]
I think Janie’s just messing with Xena on purpose. But why does the word “messing” feel too mild here!)
Janie raised an eyebrow, her voice dropping to a chill. “You’ve spent all this time dragging things out, and now you’re telling me that one sentence from me is wasting everyone’s time?”
She seemed a bit troubled, “Doesn’t that seem a bit… unreasonable?”
Xena’s jaw clenched as frustration bubbled inside her.
Janie’s calm, cutting remarks were the worst–soft on the surface but sharp enough to leave a sting. From the day they were born, it was clear they’d never see eye to eye.
Swallowing her pride, Xena managed to say, “I’m sorry.”

In den It you don’t want me to say anything, fine. I won’t. But let’s be real you’re the one who came to me I was looking for this

the gamall sing “Whatever making you so paranoidt As long as you don’t start something, nothing’s going to happens”
The implication was clear. Ben couldn’t blame her if things spiraled out of control.
Not that Janie cared enough to start anything the wanted nothing to do with the Jenkins family
