Chapter 93
Emily nodded, not denying it.
Jackson and Xavier were identical twin brothers, and it was impossible to tell them apart.
Before they turned ten, both were James’s illegitimate sons, born outside his marriage.
The elder brother, Jackson, was bright from childhood, a quick learner of everything he tried. Gentle and kind by nature, he had a gift for making friends.
Xavier, the younger brother, was shy and withdrawn, preferring solitude, and was further burdened by congenital heart disease.
The Jenkins family fortune was built through the joint efforts of James and Sofia. Divorce would have benefited neither of them, and to make matters worse, Sofia was unable to have children of her own.
So, Sofia severed their ties with their birth mother and sent Jackson and Xavier abroad to be secretly groomed. Publicly, she claimed they were her own children, supposedly unwell and receiving long-term treatment overseas.
But there could only be one heir to the Jenkins family. Naturally, superior Jackson was the most suitable choice.
So, on the very first day after returning to the country, Xavier drugged Jackson and secretly shipped him off to St. Gabriel Reform Academy. Then he assumed his brother’s identity, becoming the “sole heir of the Jenkins family”.
This was the story Jackson had told Emily. But since Xavier had assumed his brother’s identity, logically, the name he should have been using in public was “Jackson.”
So, when Emily first met Xavier and heard his introduction, she immediately sensed something was off.
She wanted to meet Jackson and Sofia, one reason being to expose what Xavier had done to his own elder brother.
Her second reason was to ask, on Jackson’s behalf, exactly what role they had played in this twisted scheme where Xavier stole Jackson’s identity but kept his own name.
Seeing Emily’s urgent gaze fixed on him, Xavier felt as if he were staring into the face of his identical twin brother, a face that mirrored his own, silently demanding an answer. ‘He must be just as desperate for an answer, right?’ Xavier thought.
Xavier suddenly burst into a mocking laugh. “Aren’t you supposed to be so clever? Parents knew we were twins, yet after I replaced you, they still let me keep my own name as the sole heir of the Jenkins family. Can’t you possibly guess why?”
He was looking straight at Emily, yet it felt as if, through her eyes, he was speaking to someone else entirely. * Emily’s eyes darkened as she realized what he truly meant.
Recalling Sofia’s piercing gaze just moments ago, it was obvious she’d already guessed exactly what Emily wanted to ask. Because this was something she had not only tacitly condoned, but she might have even played an active part in it.
Xavier was still laughing, but all traces of his usual gentleness and warmth were gone, and his smile at that moment held a disturbing, almost manic edge.

Chapter 93
He seemed to see his twin brother, the perpetual dark cloud looming over his life, standing right before him.
Xavier said, “Since we were kids, you’ve always been better than me, more likable than me. But because of this damn heart condition, I couldn’t even make a single friend.
