Chapter 87
Seeing her reluctance to speak, Bob sighed softly.
Bob knew Emily stayed silent because she didn’t want to trouble him, nor did she want Charles to worry. He just felt furious that the Bennett family had mistreated her. He shot a heavy look at the others, quietly making up his mind.
Charles hadn’t felt right ever since he saw the Bennett family mistreat Emily, so he told Bob to check in every now and then. However, the first time he came back, he ran into them kicking her out.
Bob immediately decided to stay at the Bennett villa for now to keep an eye on them. On his first night back, he found out Emily had been staying in a storage room all this time, and it pissed him.
Though Bob was just a retired butler, Gale treated him with respect. And when he spoke sharply, Emma, though indignant, dared not argue.
Still, she couldn’t help but defend herself. “I didn’t mean it. Emily came back right when I was busy with Lydia’s graduation. I just got a lot of things to handle, so I forgot-”
Emma shot Emily a reproachful look. “You could have talked to me or asked the servant to help you. There’s no need to make a fuss about it.”
Emily remained silent, but there was a sneer on her face.
Back then, Emma used to dote on her, handling everything for her personally. Yet now, it seemed she had forgotten all of that. The one she paid such close attention to had become Lydia.
Emily didn’t say a word, but Bob was furious. “Are you blaming Emily?” His voice was low but sharp with indignation. “No matter how busy you were, you should have just told the servant to help her.
“If even one of you had shown her you cared, the servants would have picked up on it and taken care of her too, but none of you did.”
Bob saw right through everything. What he meant was, since Emily got back, not one person in the Bennett family had really given a damn about her.
His pointed questions left the Bennett family speechless. For the first time since Emily’s return, they felt a flicker of guilt and concern toward her.
However, Emily didn’t need that anymore.
Though Bob was furious, he knew he was just an outsider, and his questions already went beyond what was proper. He cared about Emily, so he arranged a new room for her and even bought her many new clothes.
He remembered how she used to buy new stuff from her favorite brands the second they dropped, but in the past couple of months, he had seen her wear the same few plain outfits over and over.
He knew Emily didn’t want them to worry, so he and Charles just said nothing and bought her a lot of clothes.
Emily took them all. Though she felt she didn’t really need it, she understood that rejecting Bob would only make him worry.
