Chapter 186

She shot a mocking look at the luxury car parked not far away, its door wide open. She thought, “Waiting for me? They were clearly about to get in the pat when I came out.”

She sneered, “So you want to celebrate my birthday at Lydia’s party? The car just happens to have five seats, and you expect me to believe you were waiting for me?

Lucas’s face froze, like he’d just been slapped. He didn’t even know why he’d said that. Whenever he saw Lydia feeling wronged, he just couldn’t help but want to stand up for her.

Emily’s question not only left Lucas speechless, but the rest of the Bennett Family suddenly looked awkward and guilty, too.

Today was Lydia’s birthday the whole family had started getting ready for it more than half a month ago. But not a single person remembered that it was also Emily’s birthday

In the awkward silence, Andrew said, “Alright, since you’re out now, let’s get in the car, We’re running out of time. Your birthday and Lydia’s are on the same day, so naturally, the party is for you, too.

“We promised to treat everyone equally, so of course you’re included. Just behave yourself today and don’t make a scene.”

Histone was full of warning, as if he was convinced Emily’s earlier question was a challenge to Lydia, as if she was just looking to pick a fight.

Emily’s lips curled into a slight frown. She said, “Relax, Mr. Bennett. I won’t be showing up at Ms. Bennett’s birthday party, so you can stop worrying

about me making a scene.

She had way too much to look into–no time, and no interest, to waste on Lydia’s birthday party.

Emily turned to leave, but Lydia wasn’t about to let her go. She said, “Emily, the birthday party’s about to start–come join us.

“A few days ago, when we visited Grandpa in the hospital, he made sure to tell us we had to celebrate your birthday with you this year. He even picked out a gift just for you. You don’t want to let him down, do you?”

Emily was just about to say no, but the words caught in her throat and she froze.

After her eighteenth birthday, the only ones left who remembered her birthday were Charles and Bob. Now that Bob was gone, she refused to let Charles down. So she ended up going to the hotel with the Bennett Family.

Emily knew Lydia was so desperate for her to show up at the party–there was no way Charles to worry about her.

Even though Charles always put on a cheerful front around her, telling jokes to make her smile, Emily knew that after Bob passed away, Charles just wasn’t the same. His energy was gone, and his health had gone downhill

Seeing how early Emily got into the car, Lydia’s lips curled into a subtle, knowing smirk. She thought, I knew it just mentioning that old geezer makes Emily especially easy to manipulate

Emily sat in the farthest corner, arms crossed tightly as if putting up a wall around hersell, her face turned to the window as she watched the scenery sh by.

In sharp contrast, the Bennett Family clustered around Lydia, doting on her as if she were the center of their world.
