Chapter 18
“Ms. Pierce, I’m being thoughtful from the bottom of my heart”
he insisted.
Words failed Adelaide.
Apart from Garrett, Adelaide had never been this close to
another man. It made her uncomfortable. Her whole arm was
tense.
Even though it was just a short while, it felt like a century to
her. She could feel the sweat on her back.
“It’s done.” Reginald let go of her hand. “Do you need me to walk
you inside?”
“Don’t bother. Thank you for dropping me off here, Mr.
Thorton. Goodbye, and good night.” As she spoke, Adelaide
hurried through the gate, closed it behind her, and walked
away without looking back. She didn’t care if Reginald left or
not.
Only after she got inside her place did she collapse onto the sofa,
exhausted.
From the moment she got into Reginald’s car until now, she had

It was a place where people ended their lives when they were
feeling really down.
Adelaide laughed, “What are you talking about? I’m not gonna
jump into the river over them.”
Teresa knew Adelaide wouldn’t do that, but the thought still
scared her. She had even thought that if Adelaide really killed
herself, she would spend the rest of her life taking down Garrett
and the Pierce family and then jump into the river herself.
“So where are you? Why aren’t you answering their calls, or

even mine?”
Adelaide didn’t feel the need to hide anything from Teresa.
She told Teresa straight out that she had joined Reginald’s
design team. She would start at Orvenix Group tomorrow and
had just been with him.
Teresa was stunned for a second, her voice shaking. “Are you
talking about the Reginald from three years ago?”
“Is there another Reginald in Evercrest?” Adelaide was amused.
“Is Reginald still into you?” Teresa asked again.
Thinking back to what Reginald had said at Rosecliff Manor,
Adelaide said softly, “Probably. But don’t get me wrong, I
