Chapter 8

Tristan’s POV

I slammed the bedroom door behind me, shutting out my father’s reprimands that still echoed through the halls

of Moon Sanctuary. The old man had the audacity to berate meme, the future Alphalike I was some disobedient pup. All because Lysandra had played the victim card one last time before fleeing.

She’ll be back,I muttered, tearing off my ritual robes and hurling them across the room. When she realizes what it means to be a Rogue, she’ll come crawling back.

The thought satisfied me momentarily. I’d enjoy seeing her humiliated returnperhaps tomorrow morning, disheveled and begging for forgiveness. Maybe then my father would see her true colors.

My wolf stirred restlessly beneath my skin, pacing the confines of our shared consciousness. He’d been agitated ever since Lysandra walked out, though I couldn’t fathom why. She meant nothing to us.

That night, I dreamed of my childhood kidnappingbut instead of Selene rescuing me, as I remembered happening, it was Lysandra who appeared with healing herbs that glowed purple in the darkness. Her green eyes, not Selene’s blue ones, gazed down at me with concern.

I jolted awake, sweatsoaked sheets twisted around my limbs. Dawn’s first light filtered through the curtains as I struggled to orient myself. The dream made no senseSelene had been the one who found me that day, who

risked her life to save me. She bore the scar to prove it.

After a quick shower, I scanned the bedroom for today’s suit. Usually, Lysandra-

LYSANDRA!I bellowed out of habit, expecting her to appear with my clothes.

Silence answered me.

Reality crashed in like a physical blow. She was gone. Really gone.

I spotted my credit card lying on the nightstand where I’d left it for her. She hadn’t taken it. The realization

pricked something uncomfortable in my chest.

Shaking off the sensation, I dressed myself and stormed downstairs. The household staff froze as I entered the living room.

Where is Lysandra?I demanded, though I already knew the answer.

The head butler stepped forward, hands clasped before him. Luna left yesterday after the ritual, sir. She hasn’t returned.

Something cold coiled in my stomach at hearing her formal title, Luna. She had been my Luna, even if I’d never acknowledged her as such.

Chapter 8

I want every security camera near Moon Sanctuary checked. Now,I snapped at the head of security.

***

Sir, we found footage.

I looked up from my desk where I’d been pretending to review pack business. The security chief stood in the doorway, tablet in hand.

Show me.

He placed the tablet before me, queuing a grainy surveillance video. There she wasLysandra in her torn ritual dress, walking alone on the road that led away from pack lands. I watched her small figure move with determined steps despite her obvious exhaustion.

At one point, she stopped in the middle of the road, looking disoriented. Even through the poorquality footage, I could see her shoulders slump momentarily before she squared them again and continued walking.

EFT

The camera followed her until she reached the edge of the forest. She paused at the tree line, looking back once toward Moon Sanctuary. Then she disappeared into the trees.

I replayed the footage. Again. And again.

Something sharp twisted in my chest as I watched her walk away for the fourth time. A sudden, vicious pain that had me clutching at my shirt.
