Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29

The next day, I drummed my fingers against the polished mahogany of my desk, struggling to focus on the trade agreement that required my signature. The words blurred together, my mind refusing to process anything beyond the image of Lysandra at the airport.

A sharp knock interrupted my thoughts.

Come in,I called, grateful for the distraction.

The door swung open to reveal Varian and a slender man who immediately dropped into a bow so low his nose nearly touched the carpet.

Hail to our great Alpha, the stranger murmured, maintaining his ridiculous posture.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Pack members who clung to outdated traditions of subservience always irritated me.

Varian cleared his throat. This is Raphael, our intelligence officer. He’s brought information about Kieran.

My attention sharpened instantly. What have you found out about him?

Raphael straightened slightly but kept his eyes downcast as he presented a sleek data tablet. All the information is here, Alpha.

I nodded curtly. You may leave.

The moment the door closed behind Raphael, I snatched up the tablet, scrolling through the file with measured restraint despite the urgency burning under my skin.

Varian settled into the chair opposite my desk, his expression carefully neutral. I felt his gaze tracking my reaction as I absorbed the information about the man who’d inserted himself into Lysandra’s life.

Orphaned at a young age,I muttered, skimming the first section. Taken in by former Moonshade Alpha Caspian Ravencroft and raised alongside his son, the current Alpha Alaric.

I tossed the tablet to Varian. Summarize the rest for me.

Varian caught it smoothly and began reading. Appointed as Beta due to Caspian’s trust in his abilities and loyalty. Position maintained when Alaric took over.He scrolled through more pages. Wellrespected throughout werewolf society. Known as The Sword of Moonshadefor his fighting prowess.

The Sword of Moonshade?I repeated with a grimace. What the fuck kind of pretentious nickname is that?

I snorted. How many enemies did I take down in the last pack conflict?

Varian pretended to study the documents, though I caught the slight curl at the corner of his mouth. Are you comparing our great Alpha to a mere Beta? That doesn’t sound like you, Tristan.

My eyes flashed. Why would I do that? I’m simply curious.

Varian blinked, not bothering to hide the amusement dancing across his features.

1 gritted my teeth. Don’t give me that I know everythinglook. Just answer my question.

Hundreds fell before you, including three Alphas. Would you like me to applaud your battle record?

I smirked, casually adjusting my cufflinks while ignoring the strange tightness in my chest. She must be so proud of her choice in a mate. Getting all those accolades. Pathetic.

Indeed, someone’s situation is rather pathetic,Varian muttered, just loud enough for me to hear.

My head snapped up. What did you say?

Varian’s face remained perfectly serious, though his eyes sparkled with barely contained laughter. I said it’s obvious. You’re the most powerful Alpha. No Beta could compare to you. Especially not one who’s grown close to your exwife.
