“I…” Adrian felt a surge of guilt. Over the past few years, aside from stuffing the company with his own people, he had left everything else to the other shareholders. He had no clue what actual work had been done.
Under Phoebe’s calm gaze, he felt an awkward heat creeping up his face. His guilt made him instinctively lower his head.
“Mr. Turner, are you unable to answer, or do you just not want to?” Pheobe asked again.
Either way, it was a trap, and stepping into it would be a disaster. A flash of irritation crossed Adrian’s face after hearing her question.
He thought for a long while and finally replied, “Ms. Greene, you know well that I’m not good at management. Aren’t you just trying to put me on the spot by asking these questions?”
Phoebe’s expression turned ice–cold, and she said with a poker face, “Since you know that management isn’t your strong suit, then maybe you shouldn’t be here telling me how to do my job.”
Adrian had nothing to reply to that.
Just then, Cora came to the office with a stack of documents waiting for Pheobe’s signature. As she reached the door, she caught sight of Adrian storming out, his face thunderous. He didn’t even say hi to Cora as he left.
Stepping inside, Cora found Phoebe calmly reviewing documents. Unable to hold back her curiosity, she asked, “What did you say to Adrian? He looked pretty pissed when he left.”
Without looking up, Phoebe replied flatly, “He is unhappy because I fired his relatives. What do you need?”
Cora handed over the documents and said, “These contracts need your signature today. If everything looks good, I’ll take them back after you sign.”
Taking the papers, Phoebe said in a calm tone, “Tell HR to hire two new assistants, one male and one female.”
“Got it. I’ll have it done right away,” replied Cora.
After reviewing the documents and confirming there were no issues, Phoebe signed them and glanced at Cora. “By the way, what’s the current funding gap for the company?”
Cora hesitated for a moment and replied with a forced smile, “At least 15 million dollars.”
Phoebe frowned slightly. “Alright, I got it. You can go back to your work.”
Once Cora left, Phoebe checked her own available funds. She just owned a bit more than 15 million.
She summoned someone from the finance department and transferred the money into the company’s account. Her voice was steady as she instructed, “Consider this a personal loan from me to the company. Pay it back at the end of the year from the dividends.”
“Yes, Ms. Greene,” replied the other party.
After the employee left, Phoebe returned to reading her documents.
Meanwhile, Adrian threw a tantrum in his office. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t swallow the humiliation from earlier. After debating with himself for a long time, he finally picked up his phone and called Mark.
“Hey, Mr. Wood, do you have time for lunch?” asked Adrian.
At noon, Mark walked into the private dining room of a restaurant, and Adrian immediately stood up with a big smile. “Mr.

With a big smile, Mark sat down and looked at Adrian. “Mr. Turner, you invited me all the way here for lunch. I guess this isn’t just a casual meal, is it?”

Adrian flashed a fawning smile and answered, “You know me too well. You must’ve heard about how Ms. Greene made a big move on me this morning, right?”
Mark took a sip of water and said with a calm face, “Mr. Turner, this is just part of Ms. Greene’s strategic restructuring. A few layoffs are to be expected.”
Those people Phoebe fired were Adrian’s relatives who contributed nothing but collected paychecks. Mark didn’t see anything wrong with what she did.
Adrian let out a dry laugh and added, “You’re not wrong. But Mr. Wood, do you really think she will only stop here?”
