Colton gave her a jokingly sharp look and said gruffly, “You’re full of lies. If it weren’t for Declan’s leg injury, you would not have come back at all.”

Phoebe sheepishly stuck out her tongue and said, “I didn’t dare come back because I still didn’t fully master your skills,”

“You got that right. So, when are you planning to come back and learn more?” Colton asked.

Phoebe remained silent in response.

“Mr. Walker, let’s drop the heavy stuff. What’s on the menu for dinner tonight?” She changed the topic.

“Roast chicken with mushrooms. You are only allowed to eat mushrooms, Colton replied.

“I know you won’t let me just stick to those tedious things.” Phoebe smiled.

Colton said, “Come on, quit your chatter. Go help Paola in the kitchen.”

“On your command, sir,” said Phoebe.

Seeing Phoebe dash off to the kitchen, Colton couldn’t help but sigh and turned to Yann. “How’s she been doing?”

Seven years ago, when the Greene family found Phoebe, she was studying medicine under Colton. She was the most talented and diligent of Colton’s apprentices, and being the youngest, she was doted on by her senior classmates.

Yann paused for a moment, then murmured, “She’s probably going through a tough time. I don’t see smile on her face as frequently as I used to.”

Colton gave a cold snort and said, “I’m not surprised. The Greene family is a bunch of bastards. They tossed that girl at the welfare home’s door just because of some prophecy from a shady fortune–teller.”

“Even though they reclaimed her, that was because they needed her to donate her bone marrow to their surrogate daughter! They’re a bunch of heartless monsters!” he added.

“Mr. Walker, let’s not dwell on the past,” Yann said.

Colton said, “I’m done dwelling on this shit. Someone’s gonna make the Greene family pay for what they did.”

A flash of surprise appeared in Yann’s eyes. “Who is it exactly?”

“The Baldwin family in Noblepolis,” said Colton.

“If they knew how much Phoebe has suffered over the years, their anger alone would burn the entire Roseberg,” he added.

Yann was taken aback and wondered how Phoebe could possibly be connected to the Baldwin family.

However, seeing that Colton wasn’t inclined to say more, Yann refrained from asking further questions.

“Well, I’ve encountered quite a few complicated and perplexing cases myself over the past few years. So, I’ve come to seek your advice,” Yann said.

He took out his notebook, filled with difficult and complex cases, and handed it to Colton. He looked quite guilty as he worried that Colton might give him a head butt and ask if all the knowledge he’d accumulated over the years was for nothing after reading it.

“The rest of the cases are all in my study. Just go look for them yourself,” said Colton.

In the kitchen, Phoebe and Paola were chatting as they cooked.

Paola looked at Phoebe with envy and said. “Phoebe, I really want to go out too. But Grandpa said I have to wait until I’m twenty years old before I can leave here.”

Phoebe smiled and said, “Mr. Walker is doing this for your own good. Although the outside world is indeed quite fun, there are also many dangerous people out there. He’s just worried about you.”

“I can just join you guys. With you guys watching out for me, no one dares to even get close to me, Paola said.
