Chapter 69: The Severance Papers
Chapter 69: The Severance Papers
(Amber Stone’s POV)
Legal Advocate Barnes sent the mate bond severance agreement to the Blackwood Consortium as an expedited document, addressed to Alpha Marcus Blackwood. The return address clearly marked
Shadowcrest Legal Chambers.
Seeing that it was an urgent, private document addressed to the Alpha, the front desk staff naturally forwarded it to me. I received the document and noticed the legal firm’s letterhead, which made me curious.
However, considering that urgent, private documents usually contained content only the recipient should see, I suppressed my curiosity. My job was to deliver, not to pry.
I took the file to the Alpha’s Command Chamber, my footsteps echoing in the marble corridor. “Alpha, you
have a file, it’s from Shadowcrest Legal Chambers.”
Marcus Blackwood, who was focused on reading a contract, raised his eyes. He reached out and took the
document I handed over..
Just as he tore it open, his phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the screen and saw it was a call from the healing institute.
He answered, and after hearing what the other person said, he simply replied, “Understood.” His voice w clipped, professional.

He hung up the phone and set the document aside without opening it. He covered his brow with his palm,
using his thumb and forefinger to lightly rub his temples.
“Have someone keep an eye on Nathan Sterling.” His voice carried a dangerous edge that made my spine
straighten.
I looked at him, didn’t ask any more questions, and nodded, “Understood.”
(Elena’s POV)
After completing the discharge procedures, Patricia and I walked downstairs. We found Nathan Sterling
already leaning against his car, waiting.
He was wearing a denim shirt today, with a white T–shirt underneath, and straight black pants tucked into his combat boots. He looked handsome and young, making him appear like a college student.
I almost didn’t recognize him. “Nathan, why are you…”
“I asked Nathan to come, Patricia smiled. “Mom promised to invite him to our house for dinner, after all, he helped your father a lot during those three days.”
Nathan raised an eyebrow and opened the car door for us. His gesture was gentlemanly, natural.
As the car slowly drove along the road, Patricia, sitting in the passenger seat, kept asking Nathan personal questions. She wanted to know whether he was mated, had a girlfriend, or anyone he liked.
Nathan was almost unable to handle it until I intervened. “Mom, anyone who didn’t know would think

were choosing a daughter–in–law”
Patricia turned her head to look at me. “Nathan is a male, how could he be a daughter–in–law, I think…”
Patricia glanced at us, her eyes smiling, and continued. “A son–in–law is more like it.”
I was stunned. Nathan, in the front, happened to look up at the rearview mirror, our eyes meeting almost
simultaneously,
I awkwardly looked away and touched my nose. “…My mom likes to joke, Nathan, don’t mind it.”
Nathan’s lips slightly curved upward. “I don’t mind.”
Patricia then sighed. “Nathan is such a good kid, too bad… if we had met him sooner.”
From my mother’s expression, I could read her heart. She was thinking if I had mated with Nathan instead of Marcus, perhaps everything being different.
Reaching the Blackthorne Pack Grounds, all three of us got out of the car. Patricia suddenly remembered that she hadn’t bought groceries yet.
She turned her head and said, “I have to go buy some groceries, there’s still time to pick out fresh ones at
Moonhaven Market Square.”
After taking a few steps, she turned back and asked. “Nathan, what do you like to eat? Any foods you can’t
eat?”
Facing Patricia’s enthusiasm, Nathan was stunned for a few seconds before smiling and answering. “I’m not picky, Aunt.”
“Good, Elena, you entertain the guest well,” Patricia instructed before leaving with a smile.
“Seeing Aunt’s condition, are you relieved?” Nathan turned around to face me.
I raised my head. “Then I have to thank you.”
Nathan looked at me, raising his eyebrows slightly. “Don’t need to be so polite with me, right?”
I paused, just about to say something. My gaze involuntarily turned towards his back.
Not far away, a Rolls–Royce was parked under the shade of a sycamore tree. The rear window slowly lowered, and the man’s handsome face was filled with gloom, his gaze abruptly stopping on my face.
Nathan followed my gaze and turned around, naturally meeting Marcus Blackwood’s cold eyes. Between Alphas, there was a “mutual understanding” where neither said anything but both knew, but this understanding didn’t come from a good place.
Nathan smiled faintly, meaningfully. “Alpha isn’t at the healing institute keeping his girlfriend company?”
Marcus stopped in front of him, calmly. “How much does Young Master Sterling think he knows about my
affairs?”
*Half and half, perhaps, Nathan moved closer to him. “At least more than you know yourself, Alpha.”
“The Lunar Dream Research Institute is your project.” Marcus’s voice was dangerously quiet.
Nathan’s smile slightly faded, “So?”
“It’s nothing.” Marcus walked past him, his expression intriguing. “I wonder how much utilization is mixed into

Young Master Sterling’s heart.”
An imperceptible edge was hidden in Nathan’s eyes. The tension between them crackled like electricity. Marcus stopped in front of me. “You’re discharged?”
“Is it any of your business? Just as I was about to walk towards Nathan, my wrist was grabbed by him.
As I struggled to break free, the man forcefully pulled me into his arms, trapping me. “Young Master Sterling saw the relationship between her and me?”
I struggled fiercely. “Marcus!”
Marcus suppressed his temper and looked at me. “I am your mate, are you siding with another male?”
Mate… I suddenly froze. He would actually acknowledge our bond in front of others.
Heh, how laughable. After all this time, now he wanted to claim me publicly?
Nathan didn’t have an unexpected expression on his face. He glanced at me and smiled. “But how does it
look to me, Alpha is forcing her?”
“She willingly accepted my mark.” Marcus loosened his grip slightly, pinched my chin, and his finger brushed
over the mole at the corner of my eye, caressing it affectionately. “Is it considered forced?”
I brushed his hand away, my face expressionless as I met his gaze. In his cold eyes, I could actually see him
