Chapter 58: The Breakfast Gesture
Chapter 58: The Breakfast Gesture
(Elena’s POV)
The next morning, I walked out of the Moonhaven Estate Great Hall and saw Catherine Hayes cleaning up the dinner on the table. She was throwing the untouched food away with obvious disappointment.
“Why didn’t anyone eat such a good dinner? It’s so hot, what a waste!” Catherine muttered as she scraped the plates.
I pursed my lips, watching her dispose of the meal I had personally prepared yesterday. I had even sent Marcus a message about it, but he never came home.
It seemed that yesterday’s confrontation at the Blackwood Consortium had truly angered him. The dinner I’d made with my own hands had gone completely untouched.
Catherine Hayes noticed my expression and approached me gently. “Miss Elena, perhaps you should bring breakfast to Alpha Marcus today”
She smiled encouragingly “You used to prepare his morning meals personally. He always appreciated those gestures”
I considered her suggestion. Maybe a small peace offering would help ease the tension between us.
“That’s a good idea,” I agreed. TI prepare something now”
I spent the next hour in the Moonhaven Kitchen, carefully preparing Marcus’s favorite breakfast items. I packed everything neatly in an insulated container and headed to the Blackwood Consortium Tower.
At the Blackwood Consortium, the receptionist recognized me immediately. Her attitude was completely different from yesterday’s chaos
“Good morning. Mrs. Blackwood, she greeted me warmly. “How may I assist you today?”
Theld up the breakfast container“i brought this for Alpha Marcus. Could you please deliver it to him?”
The receptionist’s eyes lit up with helpful enthusiasm. “Of course! I’d be happy to take it directly to his office.”
I shook my head politely. “Actually, could you pass it to Amber Stone instead? She’ll know what to do with it.”
The receptionist looked slightly surprised but nodded. “Certainly I’ll contact her right away”
(Marcus’s POV)
Amber Stone entered my Alpha’s Command Chamber with a puzzled expression, carrying Elena’s breakfast
container
I was finishing a phone call by the window when she approached my desk. “Elena brought this for you,” she
said, setting down the container
I ended my conversation and turned to examine the breakfast. The familiar packaging brought back
memories of Elena’s past gestures.
She had prepared dinner last night and now breakfast this morning. I wondered if she was doing this for
David’s sake, trying to soften my stance toward her family.
Chapter 68. The Breakfast
The thought both irritated and intrigued me. Elena’s motivations were becoming increasingly difficult to mid
Just then, Oliver burst through my office door with childlike excitement. His injured knee was clearly feeling better.
“Alpha Marcus!” he called out cheerfully.
Sophia followed behind him, looking slightly embarrassed by his enthusiasm. “Tm sorry, Marcus. He insisted on seeing you.”
I frowned but showed concern for Oliver’s condition. “How is your knee feeling today?”
Oliver beamed at my attention. “Much better! The pack healer said I can walk normally now.”
Sophia stepped forward with a gentle smile. The injury wasn’t severe. Oliver has been excited about your promise to take him to the Moonlight Carnival Grounds.”
Oliver’s eyes widened with hope as he looked up at me. “You promised, Alpha Marcus! Can we go today?”
I remembered my commitment to the boy. Despite everything happening with Elena and the pack, I couldn’t disappoint a pup
“Yes, we can go today,” I confirmed.
(Sophia’s POV)
As Oliver celebrated Marcus’s agreement, my attention was drawn to the breakfast container on his desk. The packaging didn’t look like takeout from any restaurant.
Curiosity g
got the better of me. “Marcus, what’s in the container?”
I moved closer to examine it. When I opened the lid, the aroma of fried rice with venison filled the air.
This was clearly homemade. The presentation and seasoning suggested someone had put considerable effort into preparing it.
Could Elena have made this? The thought sent a spike of jealousy through my chest.
“Can Oliver have some?” I asked, trying to sound casual. “He loves venison,”
Marcus glanced at the container dismissively. “It’s too oily and heavily seasoned for a child. Not healthy.”
He paused, then added, “That’s Amber Stone’s breakfast anyway.”
Amber Stone, who had been quietly observing our exchange, raised an eyebrow at Marcus’s words. Her
expression turned sardonic.
“Actually, that’s not mine,” she said coolly. “But I’ll take it if no one else wants it.”
She picked up the container with deliberate emphasis and headed toward the door. “Waste not, want not.”
I watched her leave, secretly annoyed by her sarcastic tone and Marcus’s obvious deception.
(Elena’s POV)
At the Shadowmere Private Healing Sanctuary, I approached the entrance with determination. The guards immediately stepped forward to block my path.
I’m sorry, but Alpha Marcus has given strict orders,” one guard explained. “No visitors are allowed to see
David Blackthorne.”
Chapter 58: The Breakfast
My heart sank, but I tried to maintain composure. “How Is he doing? Is he receiving proper care
The guard’s expression softened slightly. “He’s receiving the best professional care available. The healing staff are monitoring him around the clock.”
I nodded, feeling somewhat reassured. At least David was safe and well–cared for, even if I couldn’t see him
Considering my impending separation from Marcus, I needed to find a way to protect David from being used as leverage against me. I sent a quick message to Patricia, reassuring her about David’s condition.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed with a notification from the Institute’s work group. Someone had shared a photo that made my blood run cold.
The image showed Sophia and Oliver with Marcus at the Moonlight Carnival Grounds. They looked like a perfect family enjoying a day out together..
The group chat exploded with excited comments and speculation. Staff members were discussing whether Oliver might be Marcus’s child.
I stared at the photo, feeling a bitter smile cross my lips. Sophia had deliberately shared this for me to see, knowing I was part of the work group.
I quickly saved the picture before it could be deleted.
Sure enough, within minutes, Sophia retracted the message with an apologetic follow–up. “Sorry everyone! Posted by mistake!”
The group members teased her good–naturedly, but I could see through her calculated move.
Without hesitation, I forwarded the photo to Victoria Blackwood.
(Victoria’s POV)
I was
relaxing at Luna’s Beauty Haven with several pack friends when Elena’s message arrived. The photo made me nearly drop my phone in shock
My son was at a carnival with that woman and her child, looking every bit like a mated family. The sight filled me with rage..
I immediately called Marcus, my voice sharp with authority. “Where are you right now, and who are you with?”
Marcus’s voice was carefully neutral. Tm with pack members, Mother. Why?”
–I could hear carnival music and children’s laughter in the background. He was lying directly to my face.
“Don’t lie to me, Marcus,” I snapped. “I know exactly where you are and who you’re with.”
There was a pause before he responded. “Mother, I can explain-”
“You’re at that carnival with Sophia Rivers and her child!” I interrupted. “How could you be so foolish?”
My friends at the salon were staring at me with concern, but I didn’t care about making a scene..
“I’ve told you repeatedly that I disapprove of that woman,” I continued. “If you want to sever your mate bond
with Elena, then do it properly. But don’t parade around with your mistress like this!*
Marcus’s voice remained frustratingly calm. “I never said I wanted a separation from Elena,”
