(Elena’s POV)

I suppressed my smile and looked at Isabella, “If anyone should apologize, it’s him who should apologize to

me first.”

Isabella Blackwood scoffed at my words, her perfectly manicured nails tapping against the polished table

surface.

“You’re so self–righteous,” she sneered. “Everyone knows you only wanted Marcus for his wealth and position.”

Her eyes narrowed as she looked me up and down with obvious disdain.

“Stop acting innocent. You pursued him willingly,” Isabella continued, her voice dripping with venom. “It’s not

his fault he doesn’t love you.”

I remained silent, watching her dig herself deeper.

“And now you’re involved with inappropriate men,” she gestured dismissively toward Nathan. “Who knows what diseases you might bring back to my cousin through your unfaithful behavior.”

Something snapped inside me. The accumulated frustration of years being the unwanted mate, the recent discovery about my adoption, and David’s condition–it all converged into a single moment of clarity.

“I didn’t have an affair,” Marcus replied calmly.

I stared at him, finding his words laughable. “If this doesn’t count as an affair, then what does? Do you want me to catch you in bed?”
