Genius Kids‘ Scheme: Claiming Daddy’s Billionaire Empire
Chapter 64
As Lucas’s innocent request hung in the air, the atmosphere in the guest room shifted, Irene straightened up from where she’d been examining her ankle, mom–mode instantly activated.
“Hold up right there!” she cut in, giving‘ Lucas her best careful what you wish for look. ‘Sweetie, we can’t just invite ourselves into people’s beds. That’s not how it works.”
“But Uncle Adam’s not just anybody!” Lucas whined, his face transforming into the puppy–dog expression he’d perfected since toddlerhood. “Come on, please? Pretty please with sugar on top?”
“Me too, me too!” Lily’s hand shot into the air as she bounced on her toes. ‘I want to sleep with Uncle Adam! He makes me feel
super safe!
Alex, watching the whole scene unfold, seized his chance to play the voice of reason. Actually, this makes total sense. Think about it – if we sleep with Mom tonight, we might accidentally bump her ankle or wrist. That would be really bad, right?”
Irene shifted in her seat, trying to hide her wince as she adjusted her position. “There are plenty of other guest rooms you can use,” she pointed out, fighting back a smile at their obvious scheming.
The triplets exchanged quick glances before launching their coordinated attack – three pairs of huge eyes, three wobbling lower lips, three sets of slumped shoulders. Irene crossed her arms, hitting them with her famous ‘mom’s not buying it eyebrow raise. Their faces fell so dramatically you’d think someone had just canceled Christmas.
“It’s fine by me,” Adam spoke up unexpectedly, his voice carrying a gentleness that made everyone turn to look at him. “Let them stay if they want to.”
–
The change in the kids was instant – three little heads whipped around so fast they practically created a breeze, their faces lighting up like Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
“No way!” Irene shook her head, gesturing at the spacious guest room around them. “We’re already crashing at your place – we can’t take over your bedroom too.”
“Alex made a good point though,” Adam countered, his eyes flickering briefly to her swollen ankle. “They might accidentally hurt you during the night. Plus, everything’s new here – sleeping alone might freak them out. Really, I don’t mind.”
“Yeah, what he said!” Lucas nodded eagerly, practically bouncing in place. “Uncle Adam totally gets it!”
Irene looked between her eager kids and Adam’s sincere expression, her resolve visibly crumbling. Finally, she threw up her hands in defeat. “Fine, you little con artists. You win this round.”
The kids erupted in cheers that could’ve registered on the Richter scale. Irene couldn’t help laughing, the sound mixing with their celebration. “Wow, you guys are that happy about ditching your mom, huh?”
“No way!” Alex protested, immediately abandoning his victory dance to look absolutely scandalized. “We love you tons, Mom! We’re just being super responsible about your recovery.”
“Oh, is that what this is?” Irene reached out to tweak his nose playfully. “Nice save there, sweetie. And yeah, it’s actually working.”
She turned to Adam, who was still watching the scene with barely concealed amusement. “Seriously though, if they start bouncing off the walls, just kick them back to my room. Don’t let them mess up your sleep.”
Thomas, who’d been quietly enjoying the whole exchange, stepped forward. “Ready to head to your room, boss?”
As Thomas helped Adam navigate toward his bedroom, the kids swarmed around their mother for goodnight kisses. The moment they were done, they practically sprinted after Adam and Thomas, their excited whispers echoing down the hallway.
