Genius Kids' Scheme Claiming Daddy's Billionaire Empire novel Chapter 57

Standing on the doorstep was Samantha Wright, Adam’s supposed flancée and the Wright family’s golden daughter. She looked every bit the society princess in her tailored cream dress and matching jacket. Her honey blonde hair cascaded in perfect waves around her shoulders, and she carried a designer shopping bag that probably cost more than Thomas’s entire monthly salary.

Miss Wright, Thomas said, quickly recovering his composure. Wow talk about an early visit. What brings you here at this hour?

Samantha’s voice was soft as silk when she answered, I’m here to see Adam. I hope I’m not crashing his morning routine?

Thomas hesitated for a hot second. The boss hadn’t mentioned expecting any visitors, especially not at breakfast time. And certainly not her. But his years of professional training kicked in.

Mr. Haven’s already up,he replied smoothly. Come on in.

He stepped aside, waving her into the foyer with its skyhigh ceilings and tasteful modern art. As he led her toward the main living area, Thomas couldn’t help but feel a knot forming in his stomach. Mr. Haven had been in a decent mood this morning and this surprise visit was likely to change that faster than Thomas could say bonus deduction.

The moment Adam spotted Samantha, his expression froze over. His fingers went still on his tablet, and a tiny crease appeared between his brows.

Miss Wright,he said, his voice about as warm as a January blizzard. What brings you here so early?

Samantha’s smile wobbled for just a moment before she plastered it back on. Thomas caught that flash of hurt in her eyes, quickly hidden behind practiced social grace. She’d definitely noticed how Adam deliberately used her surname instead of her first name, despite their supposed engagement.

I thought I’d surprise you with breakfast, she said, lifting the bag in her hands with renewed pep. Made some healthy stuff myself -that sprouted grain bread you like, and those special berries that do wonders for recovery.

Adam’s eyes narrowed slightly. How exactly did you get this address

The blunt question hung awkwardly in the air, making it crystal clear that not only was he not happy to see her, but he hadn’t even bothered to share where he was living with his socalled fiancée.

Samantha’s confidence visibly crumbled. Your mother told me,she admitted, her voice going soft and uncertain. Sophia mentioned you tend to skip breakfast, and she’s worried it might mess with your recovery. She thought maybe you’d eat ifif I brought something special.

Adam’s gaze flicked pointedly to his halfempty plate, then back to her face. He dabbed at the corner of his mouth with a napkin, each movement calculated and cool.

As you can see, I’ve already eaten,he stated flatly. Thanks for the thought, Miss Wright, but it wasn’t necessary. I have a professional chef here, and more importantly-his voice got even chillier, -I don’t appreciate surprise visits, no matter who

they’re from,

The brushoff was impossible to miss, cutting through any pretense of politeness. Thomas winced internally, keeping his poker face firmly in place as he stood by the doorway. Ouch, that was brutal ever by the boss’s standards.

Samantha blinked rapidly, and Thomas could practically see her scrambling to regroup. Seems I picked a bad time, she said, holding it together impressively. But there was something else I wanted to check. Your mother mentioned a dinner tonightfor both our families. Just wanted to see if you’d be around? Sophia seemed super excited about it.

Adam’s eyes turned frosty. Thomas could almost hear the wheels turning in his employer’s head, instantly recognizing this dinner for what it wasan ambush, probably all about wedding plans and timelines.

Chapter 57

I’ve got plans tonight,Adam shot back without missing a beat. “My schedule’s totally packed.

Thomas had to bite his cheek to keep from smirking. It wasn’t exactly a lieMr. Haven did have his daily treatment with Dr. Sterling every evening. But Thomas knew perfectly well that even without these sessions, his boss would have cooked up an excuse faster than Thomas could say stock portfolio.

Samantha’s smile stayed glued in place, though something flickered behind her eyesdisappointment tangled with determination. Thomas had to give her credit for persistence. Most people would’ve wilted under Adam Haven’s icecold rejection, but she just straightened her spine, adjusted her grip on the bag, and nodded.

Got it,she said, keeping her voice steady. I’ll let everyone know you can’t make it. Won’t take up any more of your morning, Mr. Haven. Have a good one.

With the polish of someone who’d had etiquette lessons since diapers, Samantha turned and walked toward the door. Her heels clicked against the marble floor, her posture runwayperfect despite getting shut down hard.

Adam didn’t even glance her way as she left, already diving back into his tablet like she’d been nothing more than a passing shadow.

Thomas escorted her to the front door, feeling a surprising twinge of sympathy. As much as he was Team Dr. Sterling all the way (anyone with functioning eyeballs could see the chemistry there), he couldn’t help feeling a little bad for Samantha. Girl was fighting a losing battle, but at least she had style.

Let me walk you out, Miss Wright,he said politely.

At the doorway, Samantha paused. He’s always been like this, hasn’t he?she asked quietly, not really expecting an answer.

Thomas cleared his throat awkwardly. Mr. Haven’s pretty big on privacy and routine, especially during his recovery.
