When they saw the man in the wheelchair, both mother and son’s expressions changed. Susie instinctively stepped closer to the bed, shielding Jose behind her protectively.
She forced a smile and greeted him, “Johnathan, what brings you here?”
Johnathan’s gaze lingered on Susie’s face for quite a while. In all these years, it was the first time he had looked at Chase’s wife this seriously.
He had overheard everything the mother and son had just said. Even though there were bodyguards outside, they all knew who he was, and no one had dared to stop him.
He had always thought Susie was a two-faced woman, full of fake sweetness and hidden blades-but after hearing their exchange just now, that didn’t seem to be the case.
Susie grew anxious under his silent stare. Her voice began to tremble.
“Johnathan…”
There was a hint of pleading in her eyes, but her frail body still stood firmly between him and Jose.
After a long moment, Johnathan finally spoke in a calm voice. “I have questions for him.”
“…Okay.”
Susie stepped aside. Johnathan turned to Jose.
Jose was indeed “injured”-he looked badly hurt, but Johnathan could tell at a glance they were only surface wounds.
Jose hadn’t expected Johnathan to come. His heart pounded nervously, especially seeing his mother trying to shield him. He was filled with conflicting emotions.
“Besides helping Quinn escape and delivering Dora to her, what else have you done? Who were you in contact with?”
Johnathan stared coldly at him.
Panic surged in Jose’s heart. He quickly said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Jose, I have very little patience. Next time, I won’t ask this nicely.”
Johnathan’s voice was icy.
Susie quickly urged him, “Jose, just tell the truth!”

Jose gritted his teeth and pressed on, “I really don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I know you’ve never liked me. You’ve been scheming to get rid of me from the start. But Johnathan, if I didn’t do it, then I didn’t do it. Don’t try to pin this on me.”
At that, Johnathan let out a cold laugh. Susie, meanwhile, gave a weary sigh.
“Scheming to get rid of me? Who do you think you are?” Johnathan said with biting sarcasm. “If you hadn’t kept jumping in front of me, I wouldn’t even remember your name. Jose, don’t overestimate your importance!”
There was nothing Jose could’ve heard that would enrage him more.
He had spent years treating Johnathan as his rival, his goal-yet the other party had never even bothered to acknowledge his existence. It was beyond humiliating.
But the most humiliating part was what Johnathan said next.
“If I wanted you gone, I’ve had countless chances. When you were ten, you were kidnapped. You walked away safely—not because you were smart, not because the kidnappers were idiots-but because I took them all out. When you were fifteen, there was a lab explosion due to your own mistake. You hid it from the family and handled it on your own. You managed to cover it up-not because you were so capable, but because I cleaned up the mess for you. If I so much as lifted a finger, you wouldn’t be standing here talking to me right now. Understand?”
Johnathan’s words didn’t just shock Susie and Jose-Sierra was stunned as well.
