Chapter 87

Victor asked with interest, Freya, have you decided who to cast as the lead actor in Moonlit Hunt?

Victor had no idea Freya was the author of Moonlit Huntuntil the day he accidentally saw her author dashboard with the identical pen name.

Freya gave an awkward smile. Victor, it’s still too early for that. We haven’t even signed the contract yet.

Skylar looked up from her phone.

She looked at her phone and then glanced up at Freya sitting across from her.

Skylar thought in disbelief, Freya is Sapphire? That who am I?

Skylar studied Freya with amused interest. Freya, are you Sapphire, the author of Moonlit Hunt?

Of course. Why do you ask?Freya tossed her hair with a sweet smile. Are you a fan of mine, Skylar?

Skylar’s lips curled into a knowing smile. Well, I never thought you would turn out to be my favorite author.

Freya was overjoyed. She thought, I can’t believe Skylar is actually a fan of Sapphire. At last, I’ve got one thing over Skylar

Skylar propped her chin in her hand with feigned curiosity. Freya, there are so many plot points in this book I don’t quite get. Mind if I pick your brain?Freya nodded eagerly. Don’t worry. Ask me anything, and I’ll tell you everything I know.

Skylar asked, I’ve always wondered why the serial killer in Moonlit Huntalways strikes when it rains. Is there a special reason you set it up that way?

Freya said with confident ease, Skylar, you clearly haven’t been paying close attention.

It’s set up this way because the sound of rain triggers the serial killer’s split personality.

He developed a split personality because, when he was a kid, his entire family was murdered during a home invasion.

His family hid him in the bathroom storage cabinet to save him. He clamped a hand over his mouth, watching in terror as the murderer washed the blood off his hands in the sink right above him.

After washing his hands, the killer left the faucet running. The steady dripping sounded just like falling rain.

The trauma was too much. He couldn’t bear to recall the horror, so his mind split, creating a split personality, violent, volatile, and bloodthirsty, the exact opposite of his original self.

Freya was absolutely right. Everything she said came straight from Skylar’s book.

But that wasn’t how Skylar originally intended it.

In her original story, the killer was a born psychopath who loved blood. He trembled in the cabinet because he was thrilled by the sight of it.

Later, when he became a serial killer, the split personality was just an act, a calculated lie. He picked rainy days because blood washed away easier, and he found it almost beautiful swirling down the drain.

She wrote it all pretty subtly. Freya might have read it, but she clearly didn’t look too closely. She probably didn’t catch on at all.

Skylar glanced at Freya with a playful grin. Freya, can I take a peek at your author dashboard?

Freya’s expression froze for a split second. Why would you want to see my author dashboard?

Skylar teased, Freya, one of your books went on hiatus. Don’t tell me you’ve run out of drafts. Your fans are bombarding you for updates.”
