The Ex-con Queen Strikes Back novel Chapter 72

The cameraman grabbed Skylar and ran. Victor watched them flee and then focused intently on the charging boar.

Victor gripped the shovel with both hands, bracing for defense. To his astonishment, the boar charged right past him, making a beeline for Skylar and the

cameraman.

Victor froze for a split second and then sprinted after it.

The wild boar charged forward, letting out ferocious snorts as if trying to intimidate Skylar and the cameraman.

The cameraman burst into tears and wailed, Why the hell is this wild boar after us?

Skylar suddenly had a lightbulb moment. Wait a second. Something’s not right here,’ she thought.

Split up,Skylar shouted.

Terrified as he was, the cameraman thought, Skylar just helped me. How could I possibly ditch her and run? I am not that ungrateful.

Ms. Lambert, I’m staying with you,the cameraman insisted.

Skylar’s expression turned grave. That wild boar is after me. Staying with me is suicide. Get out of here now.

The cameraman gasped in disbelief, How could that be?

There’s no time to explain. Go get help. I’ll handle this, she said.

The cameraman didn’t hesitate for long. Ms. Lambert, wait for me. I’ll be back in a flash.

He bolted as fast as he could, terrified that even a second’s delay might hold up the rescue.

In the blink of an eye, the wild boar charged at Skylar. Keeping her eyes locked on the beast, she crouched slightly and grabbed a wristthick branch from the ground.

Villagers often came up the mountain to gather firewood, clearing away obstructive branches and logs to make their way through the woods.

These trimmings became Skylar’s weapon against the raging boar.

The wild boar kept emitting low, guttural growls.

Neither Skylar nor the wild boar dared to make the first move, locked in a tense standoff.

Victor ran until his legs gave out. When he finally caught up and saw the boar poised to attack Skylar at any second, his heart was in his throat.

Without a second thought, Victor grabbed the shovel and charged forward, shielding Skylar. Don’t be scared, Skylar. I’ve got you.

His towering figure stood before Skylar like the sun, instantly warming her heart and filling her with a sense of security.

Victor’s sudden movement startled the wild boar. Abandoning its cautious stance, the beast reared up and charged at them with terrifying speed.

Victor shoved Skylar out of the way and slammed the shovel down hard onto the wild boar. The beast let out a pained squeal. The eared up on its hind legs and delivered a powerful kick straight at Victor.

Victor was sent sprawling by the boar’s kick, but he clung to the shovel desperately, bracing for the beast’s next lunge.

Though he was armed with a shovel, the wild boar was huge and savage. There was no way that little shovel could stand up to a beast like that.

Seizing the moment when the wild boar was distracted, Skylar swung the wristthick branch and smashed it straight onto the beast’s head.
