Chapter 41
Yosef cast her a glance and said nothing more. “Adam may be little, but he’s picky with his stuff,” he added casually.
In other words–Adam’s expensive. Skylar finally understood why he’d insisted on giving her the card,
“Well, thank you again, Mr. Campbell,” she said. “I’ll take Adam with me now.”
She got up from the bed. “Adam, go get changed. We’re leaving.”
Adam’s heart pounded with excitement, It would be his first time at Skylar’s place.
He knew he couldn’t get too worked up, though. If he fainted, it would worry Skylar. He had to stay calm.
He quickly composed himself, got out of bed, and went to change out of his hospital gown in the bathroom.
He checked the mirror, tidied his hair, and smoothed the wrinkles from his clothes.
He thought he might meet other relatives at Skylar’s place–he had to make a good first impression. It took him a while to come out.
Skylar noticed his slightly damp bangs. “Adam, what’s with your hair?”
“It was messy, so I used water to fix it,” replied Adam.
Skylar let out a soft “oh,” smiling inwardly. So it’s not just little girls who care about their looks–little boys do, too. She thought.
Once they had everything sorted, Skylar took Adam by the hand and left.
Elianna watched helplessly as the black card she’d long coveted walked out the door in Skylar’s pocket. Her eyes stung with tears.
“Let’s go,” Yosef said.
Elianna had no choice but to follow him out, clenching her fists.
Meanwhile, after arriving at the Lambert’s house, Skylar helped Adam out of the car. He gazed up at the house, which looked like a castle, eyes wide in amazement. “Is this your house, Mommy?”
“Yes, it’s my home,” replied Skylar.
“Let’s go in! I want to meet your family!” Adam cheered.
As they walked in, the three people on the sofa all turned to look at them.
“Dad, Mom–I’m back,” Skylar said coolly.
Adam chimed in, his voice soft and sweet, “Hello, Grandpa and Grandma! I’m Adam–Mommy’s precious boy!”
His self–introduction made Skylar chuckled. But Freya’s eyes lit up.
She’d been looking for dirt on Skylar–what a gift from heaven.
“You have a kid, little sis? How adorable.” She smiled sweetly as she walked over and reached out to touch Adam’s cheek.
But Adam pulled away from her, wrinkling his nose.
“I don’t like you,” he said. “You smell weird,”
Freya’s face froze, struggling to keep her composure. “That’s just perfume! What do you mean, weird?”

“You used too much. Too much perfume smells bad,” he said, pinching his nose.
