Without a shred of suspicion, Bud eagerly sent Skylar a new friend request, his heart swelling with anticipation.

Freya watched him add Skylar’s contact, her hand absently touching the phone in her pocket. “She probably won’t be free until after work, so don’t

worry.”

Bud nodded in understanding.

At Bud’s doorstep, he turned to Freya and said with a grin, “If I manage to get together with Skylar, I’ll definitely give you a big thank–you.”

Freya smiled, “Hope you get your wish soon.”

They said their goodbyes.

Bud was so anxious for a reply that he kept his phone within arm’s reach at all times, even bringing it into the bathroom when he showered.

Just as Bud was about to rinse off the soap suds, his phone buzzed. His heart skipped a beat.

He didn’t even bother rinsing off the suds. He hastily wiped his hands on a towel and snatched up his phone.

Skylar had accepted his friend request.

Bud racked his brains, trying to come up with the perfect first message to send her.

Bud: [Hi Skylar, I’m Freya’s friend from college. When I saw you today, I had this strange sense of déjà vu, like we’d met before. That’s why I asked Freya for your contact and added you here. Hope you don’t mind me reaching out like this!]

With no reply forthcoming, Bud quickly rinsed off the soap suds, threw on some clothes, and settled onto the couch, his eyes never leaving his phone for

a second.

His gaze remained glued to the screen the entire time.

On the other end, Skylar seemed preoccupied with something, it took what felt like an eternity before she finally replied to his message: [Hi, Bud. My sister just told me about you.]

Bud was overjoyed, he wiped his clammy hands on his clothes before eagerly continuing to type. [So, Skylar, what do you usually enjoy doing in your free time?]

Skylar: [Too busy with work to have hobbies.]

Bud had originally planned to figure out her interests and use them as conversation starters to get closer to her.

He figured this approach wouldn’t work now.

Just as Bud was racking his brain for another conversation starter, a new message popped up from Skylar.

Skylar: [What about you, Bud?]

He suddenly had plenty to say.

They hit it off right away, chatting back and forth until well past 1 a.m.

Bud glanced at the time and wrote: [Skylar, you’ve got work tomorrow. Get some rest now.]
