Yosef and Skylar took Adam and got into the car, heading to the private hospital owned by Campbell Group.

Adam was still a little dazed from overhearing the conversation between his parents.

He hoped Skylar was his real mother. After all, it was his deepest wish.

Nervously, he tugged on Skylar’s sleeve and said, “Mommy, I’m a little scared.”

He was afraid that the test showed she wasn’t really his mom.

Skylar gently patted his head. “Even if you’re not, I’ll still always be your mommy.”

Adam finally felt at ease.

He slipped his tiny hand into hers, drawing warmth from her palm.

Yosef occasionally glanced at Skylar, as if wanting to say something, but in the end, said nothing.

Every now and then, Adam would say a few words to Skylar, which kept the atmosphere from becoming too awkward.

The car drove steadily until it reached the hospital entrance.

Skylar took a deep breath, her eyes determined, and held Adam’s hand as they walked in. Yosef followed closely behind.

After going through all the procedures, all that was left was to wait for the results.

Yosef drove them back. Once the results came out, he picked them up again and went with them to the hospital to get the report.

During the wait, Skylar dreamt about her child almost every night. He had Adam’s face, snuggled in her arms, speaking sweetly and clinging to her.

She’d wake up, shake her head.

The results weren’t out yet. She started to think if Adam wasn’t her child.

She shook her head again, trying to clear her chaotic thoughts.

At the hospital entrance, holding the paternity test results, her hands felt like they weighed a thousand pounds.

She had to mentally prepare herself over and over before finally gathering the courage to open the envelope.

She didn’t bother reading the dense text on top. Her eyes went straight to the conclusion at the bottom.

It said, “99.99% match.”

Skylar froze.

The paternity test confirmed a 99.99% match between Skylar and Adam.

Adam was really her child.

Her eyes stung. She crouched down and hugged Adam tightly. “Adam, my baby.”

Tears poured down uncontrollably. She wanted to hold Adam tighter, but was afraid of hurting him. “Adam…”

Adam pursed his lips and gently patted her back like she always did to him. “Don’t cry, Mommy. Don’t be sad.”
