Aaron licked the cracked corner of his mouth, the metallic taste of blood spreading in his mouth.

He wore a nonchalant, roguish expression. “Grandpa, your strength seems to have waned quite a bit.”

Stephen had practiced martial arts in the past. His slap could send a grown man flying.

Stephen snorted coldly. “You brat! Even if I’m old, I can still put you in your place.”

He ordered, “Starting today, you’ll stay in the old mansion and reflect on your mistakes. Until you realize what you did wrong, you’re not allowed to come out.”

He signaled to the bodyguards beside him. They stepped forward to restrain Aaron and escort him away.

Aaron shook off their hands, straightened his clothes, and said coldly, “I’ll walk back myself.”

Stephen shifted his attention to the more pressing matter at hand. “What are you going to do about this situation?”

No matter that Elianna had given birth to an heir for Yosef, her actions were intolerable. There was no way she could marry into the Campbell family.

Still, he didn’t want to anger Yosef, so he decided to first test the waters.

Without hesitation, Yosef said, “I won’t get engaged to her. I’ll take care of this and make sure it doesn’t affect the Campbell family or the company.”

Stephen nodded with satisfaction. “As long as you know what to do, I won’t say more.”

He asked, “I thought I saw Skylar Stone today, and she was with that Lambert boy. And why was Adam with her? Don’t you have anything to explain to me, Yosef?”

Yosef met Stephen’s gaze head–on and retorted coldly, “Grandpa, you’re meddling too much.”

Stephen stood his ground firmly. “I may not be managing things anymore, but anything related to the Campbell family and the company is still my

business.”

He added, “You can handle Skylar as you see fit, but she’s getting close to the Lambert family. You’d better be cautious. And bring the child back as soon as possible. We can’t let him live with outsiders.”

Stephen was unhappy with Adam staying at Skylar’s place.

Now that Skylar was so close to the Lambert family, Adam’s safety and upbringing there were questionable.

Yosef replied impatiently, “I don’t need you to tell me. I know what I’m doing. If that’s all, I’m leaving.”

Without giving his grandfather another chance to speak, he turned and left.

Hudson gave Stephen a respectful bow and followed Yosef out.

Stephen, displeased with their attitude, struck his cane hard on the ground. “Bunch of troublemakers!”

Yosef walked out of the hotel where the engagement party had been held and got into the car. He leaned his elbow on the window, resting his head on his hand with slight pressure.

Yosef ordered coldly, “Keep an eye on the internet. If anything about today’s engagement gets out, take it down immediately. I don’t want this affecting

us.”

Most of the guests were relatives of the Campbell family or business partners. They probably wouldn’t spread anything.

But there were always a few who enjoyed seeing the Campbell family stumble, ready to stir up trouble in secret.

Hudson replied, “Don’t worry, Mr. Campbell. I’ll have people watching closely at all times.”

After giving those instructions, Yosef thought of Adam.

Adam had been at the scene too. He might be terrified after witnessing all that.

Yosef pulled out his phone and messaged Skylar.

[How is Adam doing now?]

Skylar’s phone pinged.

Skylar glanced down at her phone, then looked at the little boy in her arms.

Since they returned from the engagement party, Adam had been completely silent. He didn’t cry, laugh, or make a fuss. He just stared blankly at one spot.

Skylar knew Adam was deeply distressed.

Elianna might be his biological mother, and even though he had no fondness for her, her actions still shook him emotionally

Skylar typed a truthful reply and sent it to Yosef: [I think he needs you right now. Come and take him home for a few days.]

Yosef slowly rubbed the edge of his phone with his thumb.

Yosef: [I’ll come pick him up soon.]

Skylar put away her phone and turned to talk to the little boy to prevent any misunderstanding.

She said, “Adam, your dad says he misses you. He’s coming to take you home for a few days.”

Upon hearing this, Adam’s eyes welled up with tears. He looked at Skylar with wide, anxious eyes. “Mommy, are you kicking me out?”

She had expected he would overthink it. Gently wiping his tears, she softly comforted him, “No, sweetheart. I just think you might need your dad’s company more right now.”

Adam threw his arms around Skylar’s neck, hiccupping from distress. “I wanna stay with Mommy. I don’t wanna go back.”

He felt so miserable, like he was going to die. He didn’t want to go back to that house. He didn’t want to see Daddy or that bad woman.

He only wanted to stay with his mommy. His grip around her arms tightened.

Skylar was nearly out of breath from the pressure. She quickly patted his back and rubbed his chubby little head. “Adam, loosen up a bit. I can’t breathe.”

Sniffling, Adam let go and apologized, “Sorry, Mommy… I didn’t mean to.”

She gave him a warm smile. “It’s okay. I’m not angry/What were you thinking about just now?”

Adam clutched the hem of his shirt, twisting it nervously. “Mommy… she… and those people… am I still Daddy’s child?”

Though his words weren’t clear, Skylar understood what he meant.

She replied, “From what I know of your dad, he would never let anyone fool him so easily.”

She added, “You are definitely his child. If you weren’t, he wouldn’t have brought you back to the Campbell family.”

Yosef had endured many dark events when he was still the scion of the Campbell family, often targeted by others.
