Chapter 126
“Might as well lay it all out today.” Mona couldn’t take it anymore.
She snapped, “I’ve been protecting you and putting up with all your crap only because you were engaged to Mr. Campbell. Without that title, you’re nothing. I was foolish to think I could get ahead by sticking with you.”
She sneered in disgust. “Following a fool like you, what kind of future could I possibly have?”
Furious, Elianna sprang up from the bed and tried to slap her. But Mona easily caught her weak hand and slapped her back.
They had already torn off the mask. Mona no longer cared.
Elianna was dazed from the slap.
She pointed a trembling finger at Mona, lips quivering with rage. “You… you…”
“If you still want my help, you’d better behave,” Mona warned.
Elianna’s bloodshot eyes glared fiercely at her. But Mona didn’t back down at all.
Elianna wanted nothing more than to kill her, but she remembered that Mona knew too much. She couldn’t let Mona go. She needed to keep her clos and wait for the right chance to eliminate her.
After weighing her options, Elianna decided to back off and make peace. “Mona, I was wrong earlier. Please don’t take it to heart.”
Mona gave her a cold look and said nothing.
Elianná added, “Mona, I’m giving you an out. If you still want to go against me and drag us both down, that won’t end well for either of us.”
Mona knew full well that ever since she became Elianna’s agent, their fates were tied together.
She said, “I’ve done everything I could to cover up this mess. But it’s not enough, 1 suggest you talk to Mr. Campbell and ask for his help.”
Elianna bit her lip. Yosef had been so heartless toward her. He probably wouldn’t help her now.
With him out of the picture, her only option was her family.
Though her father, David, was a domineering man, he’d always treated her fairly well. He might be willing to help.
Elianna grabbed her phone, plugged it in, and saw multiple missed calls from home.
She called back and sweetly said, ‘Daddy, you were looking for me?”
David snapped, “Get back home right now!”
Her smile froze. She was about to ask what happened when the call was cut off with a busy signal.
Mona commented, “Your family’s taken a hit these last few days too. It’s normal for your dad to be angry.”
Elianna’s face turned pale. She knew her father’s kindness only lasted as long as she was useful, obedient, and brought honor to the family.
Once his pride or interests were harmed, he would become a completely different person.
She packed up and returned home. As soon as she stood in front of David, he threw a cup at her, hitting her in the head
Blood oozed from the wound, and she clenched her jaw.
