Marcus nodded. "That's right. Your parents were just waiting."
They waited for enough time to pass, for the scandal surrounding Emma to fade, for Sky to build a record of good behavior and make contributions to law enforcement. His release would then feel natural and justified.
But if Sophia hadn't made the request, there would still be a wall of resentment between the Walker and Sinclair families. And Sky would continue to carry a debt he could never repay.
Zachary had once been a psychologist. He understood William and Charlotte's mindset. He also understood that in the grand scheme of things, the Walker family wasn't one the Sinclairs could afford to offend.
So, instead of waiting endlessly, he created a chance. By helping Sky secure early release, the Walker family would owe them a favor. Having Sky deal with Samuel would repay that favor in full.
The Walker family would no longer feel indebted. Sky could return to a normal life. And in the light of Sophia's forgiveness, the Walkers would feel a sense of gratitude and offer more support to her and the Sinclair family going forward.
That was why Zachary and Sophia reached out to Natalie. And she had agreed. Everything Zachary could foresee, she could foresee too.
It just so happened that this situation worked out for everyone. A true win-win situation.
Walter had been the perfect person for the job. Natalie had hand-picked him from the orphanage and brought him into the Langley family. He was one of the few people who could be called her childhood companion.
But Walter was also principled. Once he realized there could be no romantic future between them, he quickly buried those feelings and focused solely on helping her professionally.
Marcus had gone one step further. He hired Walter into the Holden Group, placing him close by and leaving no room for lingering sentiments.
Even if there had been any, Marcus was confident he could extinguish them before they took root. Still, after observing him for a while, he was certain Walter had let go completely. That was why he could now consider him a trusted friend.
"Having Walter handle this was a wise decision. He'll build a solid reputation in Dithoria very quickly," Marcus said as he peeled an apple.
"Yes," Natalie said, smiling as she took the apple he handed her.
"I meant to tell you about all this earlier, but with the wedding and the dress fittings and the photoshoots… it just slipped my mind. And I only remembered it now. Sorry."
"You don't need to apologize. I was only curious. That's all," Marcus said gently.
Natalie stood up and stretched. "I've rested enough. Let's get out and stretch our legs."
"Alright."
"Timothy and Mason have already arranged everything. We're staying in this town for a night, then enjoying ourselves here for a day before moving on. There's a hillside covered in camellias. They're in full bloom now. That's why they decided to stop here."
Natalie nodded. "Sounds great. After all, this is our honeymoon. I just didn't expect it to include my two brothers tagging along." She laughed. "But it's fine. We didn't start out with just the two of us anyway."
Their entourage had been even bigger when they first set out. So even if it wasn't the most traditional honeymoon, it was still a special experience.
Overall, Natalie was content with her decision. She had no regrets. Even with others around, being with Marcus never felt awkward or out of place.
Marcus looked at her, his eyes softening. "But still, you've had to make a sacrifice. A honeymoon is supposed to be for two."
Natalie reached out and pinched his cheek. "You're not mad at me, are you, honey?"

Hope Grandpa Charles lives long enough to see Marcus and Nat's children, please. It will make him happy to see life is still worth living and that he didn't fail raising Marcus at least. Let him be happy at least in this aspect. Thanks...
Finished till 538....Waiting for more...
This really hurts. I am confused if Yvette sent a msg saying old love to Charles through Charlene. Why isnt it in her confession. Or did she actually set vivian up into sleeping with that man? And later blackmailed vivian with it till vivian commited suicide? Did Yvetty yhinks Charles would marry her after vivians death but he remained loyal. Hence her anger?...
Hope Nat can cure Marcus' mom. Looking forward to new updates. Thank you...
