The Heiress Nobody Saw Coming (Natalie and Marcus) novel Chapter 690

Emma lay on the infirmary bed, the light in her eyes slowly fading away. She was alive, but there wasn't a shred of hope in her life. Even death had become a luxury she could no longer reach for.

A life worse than death was truly despairing.

Tears streamed down her cheeks. She had clung to the hope and belief that Charlotte and William, who had raised her, wouldn't abandon her so heartlessly.

But this final meeting made her realize the truth. To them, she was nothing at all.

"Emma Meloney, you'll be heading back soon. When you return, focus on yourself. Stop trying to use suicide to attract attention," the prison warden said.

He looked at her with impatience in his eyes. "I've seen too many people like you. People who don't have a conscience. There's no way of changing it. People like you belong in prison, where you'll spend the rest of your life repenting."

The warden was a righteous person. He was scolding Emma because of personal reasons. He had a daughter that was the same age as Sophia. However, she was killed at 18 in an act of revenge.

Sophia's incident reminded him of his daughter, so he had no sympathy for Emma, who was the mastermind behind it all. If it weren't against regulations, he would've let Emma commit suicide.

Even inside prison, Emma often received "special treatment" from her fellow inmates. Everyone knew what was going on, but they turned a blind eye.

After all, someone had instructed them to make sure Emma would be taken care of inside prison. As for who gave those instructions, everyone knew, but no one said a word.

Emma looked at the warden, her face pale and her eyes bloodshot. After a while, she nodded and replied, "You're right. Someone like me doesn't deserve to live. No one in this world loves me, so what's the point of staying alive?"

The warden spat at her without hesitation. "Your heart is as dark as coal, yet you dare blame other people.

"People like you only bring death and suffering to those who care about you. Staying away from you is the only way anyone can survive."

"Is that so?" Emma stared at the warden blankly. "Do people who truly love me die?"

"Sky Walker had a promising future, but you ruined it," the warden sneered. "But since staying away from you, he's turned things around. He's even earned several reduced sentences.

"He'll be out of prison soon. If it weren't for you, he would've never ended up with a stain like this on his record. Emma, even now, you show no remorse. You never reflect on yourself and only blame others. People like you are the most terrifying of all."

Emma froze. Her mind was already in chaos, unable to think clearly.

The only thing she heard was the warden saying that Sky had earned sentence reductions and that he might be out of prison soon.

The Walkers had the power to get Sky released if they wanted to. Back then, they said they wouldn't save Sky. But now, they helped him and completely ignored her.
