The Deadly Assassin Robin novel Chapter 1356

The auctioneer froze mid-swing, the gavel suspended in the air as he looked up toward the voice.

The woman who had spoken was stunning, modern, poised, radiating the aura of someone born into privilege.

Every guest in the auction hall turned to look at her.

A hundred million Netheris coins for a dagger from a foreign land? It seemed excessive.

Even if the weapon hailed from the distant and mysterious Earthend.

Even if the auctioneer had claimed it once belonged to a handmaiden of the legendary Divine Drakebane.

Yes, such an item could be considered priceless.

But was it really worth that much?

Unless, of course, the buyer had more money than they knew what to do with.

Whoever could afford this dagger was either incredibly wealthy or incredibly powerful.

Most likely both. And definitely one of the elite few in Gyro.

A spotlight turned and settled on the woman.

The auctioneer hesitated, then visibly stiffened.

It was her, Mabel, the daughter of Hunderra's Duke.

Seated beside her were two heirs from the country's most influential families. Donald Maack, son of the Maacks, and Lucian of the Shelbys.

Another young woman sat next to them, unfamiliar to most. Still, anyone seen in Mabel's company likely had a formidable background of their own.

Whispers rippled through the crowd.

"So it's the Duke's daughter. No wonder. That dagger is as good as hers."

"The Duke of Hunderra's wealth is unmatched. A hundred million coins are practically pocket change to them," someone murmured in the crowd.

"No wonder she's being so relentless. She has to have that dagger."

Ryleigh, who had come with Mabel, knew exactly what was happening. Mabel was stubborn and intentionally caused trouble with Robin and Daphne.

She didn't care about the dagger. It was about proving a point.

"Mabel," Ryleigh whispered, trying to calm her down. "Is this really necessary? You don't even like the dagger. Why go out of your way to get back at them?"

Mabel snapped, her tone sharp as ice, "I'm getting that dagger today, no matter what. Even if I have to buy it to throw away, I'm not letting them win."

She shot a cold glance toward the auctioneer. "Today, I'll see if they have the guts to challenge me!"

Beside her, Donald and Lucian nodded enthusiastically. "Exactly. Who does this outsider think he is, acting like he can take what he wants? Mabel, if you want it, we'll help. If you don't have enough, tell me. I'll ask my dad for more!"

Although Mabel was the Duke's daughter, pulling off a hundred million coins wasn't easy, especially considering that neither Donald nor Lucian could summon that kind of cash alone.

They were offering words of support, not actual backing.

Realizing the situation was tense, the auctioneer stepped forward to calm things down.

"Ms. Lovett, may I ask how much you're willing to bid?" he asked, trying to restore order.

Mabel let out a cold laugh, her voice dripping with confidence. "Fifty million Netheris coins."

The auctioneer blinked, stunned by the figure.

"Ms. Lovett, did you mean 500 million?"

Mabel's expression turned icy. "Do I look like I'm joking? I said 50 million, and I'm taking that dagger. No one is walking away with it but me."

A heavy silence fell over the room.

The Duke's daughter was serious. She wasn't just going to outbid everyone; she was going to force her will on them.

One hundred million was a fair bid, and here she was, offering half and still expecting to claim the dagger.

"Is she really trying to use her father's title to force this through?"

A few guests murmured quietly, casting glances at the tense scene unfolding.

"The auction house isn't some back alley operation," one whispered. "Their backing comes from the Black Faith Order."

"If Ms. Lovett thinks she can use her status as the Duke's daughter to muscle her way into claiming that dagger. She's in for a rude awakening. The auctioneer won't cave to that."

The auctioneer furrowed his brow slightly, his tone measured but unmistakably firm. "Ms. Lovett, surely you're not serious?"

Mabel's voice was cold, unwavering. "You think I'm joking? I'll say it one more time, 50 million. The dagger is mine."

She rose from her seat and strode directly toward the stage.

Donald and Lucian followed behind her.

The auctioneer gave a cool, unreadable smile.

"Ms. Lovett, I'm afraid that's not how this works. This auction is bound by rules, which say the highest legitimate bidder wins. Even if Duke Zennet were here, he'd still have to follow them. No exceptions."

Donald and Lucian fell silent at once.

They all knew who stood behind this auction house.

And with the auctioneer taking a hard stance like that, there was no way anyone would try pulling rank, even with a duke's title, to force the sale.

Earlier, Donald and Lucian had been all bravado, promising to throw down a hundred million to back Mabel up.

But now, face to face with the real deal, not a single word came out of their mouths.

Still just kids, they thought. Thinking they could strong-arm an auction house backed by the Black Faith Order just by flashing some fancy last names. Ridiculous.
