The Deadly Assassin Robin novel Chapter 1439

Pierre completed his arrangements and returned to Robin.

"Mr. Ramsey, we just received word from the island's security command center. Two unidentified medium-sized assault fleets are heading toward Qacalisle Island. Their purpose is still unclear.

"Also, the Aldridge's military intel headquarters reported strange activity at 13 military bases in Northern Escea, Ugonland, and the Far East."

Robin shut the report from the Dark Web on Kelsey and gave an indifferent smile. "Everyone has their path. Let her be."

...

Qacalisle Island General Hospital, Zone A, Ward 309.

Lex lay in bed, a breathing tube in his nose.

A female doctor came in, flipping through test papers. Her voice was harsh. "Where's your family? If you don't pay 30,000 soon, we'll stop your meds and remove you from the ward.

"Look at these bills—you already owe over 20,000, and you still haven't paid a penny!

"If we don't get the money by noon, we'll cancel your treatment and report you.

"Call your parents now! Honestly, poor people like you shouldn't even be alive! Hmph!"

She slammed the bills onto the bed and stormed out, still cursing under her breath.

Lex struggled to breathe.

He could only picture the warm faces of Ambrose and Dahlia in his mind.

They had brought him home from the orphanage three years ago.

Because he was weak and often sick, they always gave him the best meals they had.

For the first time, Lex felt that life could be good.

But the happiest moments never seemed to last.

Two months ago, he was told he had a strange and inexplicable illness.

Ambrose and Dahlia used up all their money trying to help him, but nothing worked.

By the next month, their savings were gone.

They had begged charities on Qacalisle Island for help but were turned away.

They started selling lasagna from morning till night, always making sure they didn't get caught by the market security.

Now, the doctor was asking for another 30,000.

Lex knew they had nothing left.

He hadn't slept at all the night before, thinking over and over that living had just become too exhausting.

If things went on, he would only be a burden to Ambrose.

He wanted to die.

"Lex." A messy-haired boy peeked into the ward, checking before walking in.

Lex slowly opened his eyes and tried to raise his hand. His voice was hoarse. "Nash, did you go back to the construction site? If you skip school, Dad and Mom will be upset."
