Bang! With a dull thud, a short dagger flashed and sent the stun baton spinning through the air.
Rita slammed the man down, forcing him to his knees in front of Ambrose and Dahlia, her blade cold and steady against his throat.
"You dare to resist law enforcement with violence! Release him immediately!"
The remaining three guards were stunned by what they saw.
For the past three years, they had relied on the support of the Pierpoints.
Under the noble banner of 'ensuring public safety' and 'maintaining market order,' they looted, beat, and extorted at will, committing countless atrocities.
Never had anyone dared lay a finger on them.
"You should kneel when speaking to your betters," Daphne said, voice like ice. Three silver needles shot through the air.
The guards' legs gave out, dropping all three to the ground in a heap.
"You people are out of your minds!"
One of them reached for his phone, trying to call the Market Management Department.
With a chilling smile, Daphne swung swiftly and clean. The man's arm hit the ground before he could scream.
Under the harsh sunlight, blood splattered across the dirt, stark and shocking. Four guards knelt, trembling, while islanders and vendors nearby were instantly drawn to the scene.
Pierre's secret guards quickly moved in, forming a perimeter to keep the onlookers back.
Though the islanders couldn't see what was happening behind the human wall, the earlier scene had already sent a wave of satisfaction through the crowd.
These market security guards, filthy parasites, had been oppressing the island's weakest for three years.
Many struggling families, barely scraping by with their humble street stalls, couldn't even afford a pound of meat after a full day of work.
Yet even then, these animals showed no mercy.
No one dared resist.
The few islanders who dared to fight back were either made examples or vanished.
Abuse like this played out every single day. The people of Qacalisle Island could only grit their teeth and endure.
Now, someone dared to take down the market security guards in broad daylight. It was a moment of collective catharsis.
But at the same time, the onlookers couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow.
Two stunning women had openly defied the guards. The consequences were all too easy to imagine.
The four guards themselves were horrified now. The arrogance in their eyes had all but faded.
They could tell they were dealing with dangerous people today.
If they didn't escape or call for reinforcements soon, they might not live to see tomorrow.
"Mr. Ramsey, what happened to you?" Ambrose and Dahlia looked at Robin's pale face and white hair, clearly distressed.
Robin offered a faint smile. "It's nothing. Ambrose, what exactly happened to you two? Didn't Kelsey promise to take care of you?"
Ambrose and Dahlia both shook their heads bitterly. "Mr. Ramsey, Qacalisle Island didn't turn out the way you hoped. Kelsey, that child changed.
"Who would've thought a girl who once suffered so much would become a monster the moment she tasted power?
"When you and Ms. Luella left the island in her care, she was terrific.
"She told all of us that everyone on the island would live a good life—that there would be no more bullying, no more injustice, no more poverty. No one would die from illness just because they couldn't afford treatment.
"She repeated your vision everywhere she went—on TV, online, in newspapers. Every time she spoke, she shared your ideals.
