The Deadly Assassin Robin novel Chapter 1273

Springcrest Pavilion, Quintana Residence, Draconia.

Lord Quintana, Casper, sat in his grand chair, silently staring at an old photograph of the Eight Kings from 30 years ago.

"Dad!" Jethro's voice was gentle, yet filled with concern as he entered the study. "Are you thinking about your old friends again?"

Casper slowly placed the photo down, letting out a soft sigh. "Yes. After drinking the Snow Dragon Pool water brought by Master Ramsey, I somehow managed to escape death again."

He paused, his eyes distant. "But I know ... my time is running out.

"People my age tend to look back on the past.

"I long for those days of passion and ambition," he murmured.

Jethro sat beside his father, covering him with a blanket. He struggled to speak, his throat tight with emotion, unable to find words for a long time.

Recently, several of the kings had passed away, and many issues—both internal and external—had caused unrest.

Draconia seemed heavy with frustration, and Casper felt like there was no one he could share it with.

Casper gently patted his son's arm and stayed silent for a while before speaking. "Jethro, are you carrying a lot of unsaid thoughts these days?"

Jethro nodded, his voice barely above a whisper. "Dad, I'll admit, I feel uneasy.

"There have been so many changes at the top recently, and I don't fully understand them.

"To be honest, I'm not happy with many of the decisions being made."

He let out a deep breath, as if releasing some built-up frustration. "But I won't say more. It just feels ... suffocating.

"Dad, there are things I'll leave unsaid. Just focus on getting better," he said quietly.

Casper slowly sat up and met his son's confused gaze. After a long silence, he placed a hand on Jethro's shoulder.

"Jethro, you're still as loyal as you were when you were younger!

"That's why I didn't send you to the military back then.

"With your nature, you would've made quite an impact in the army.

"Even after all these years in foreign affairs, you're still as sharp as ever.

"Though you've softened a bit, that fire inside you hasn't gone out.

"Maverick is just like you. People like you two are better suited to life in the field.

"But for someone like me, in a position of power in such a vast country, I must look at the bigger picture and the greater good.

"Politics, son, is a harsh game. You must learn to endure.

"I know, many people have been puzzled by the decisions at the top in recent years. We've taken a lot of unjust criticism.

"But the key figures, the higher-ups—they understand.

"That's actually a good thing. It means the people care deeply about this land.

"They have high expectations for their leaders.

"This is our homeland, and we cannot let either foreign enemies or internal strife trample on it!

"Even if there are disputes among us, those are issues we need to handle ourselves.

"No matter what decisions the leaders make, they carry heavy responsibilities and are proceeding cautiously.

"Everything they do is for the people of Draconia and for the prosperity of our nation.

"Draconia is now so powerful that the entire world envies us.

"A tree that stands out in the forest is bound to be struck by the wind.

"Especially on this resource-scarce planet, we have every advantage, the right timing, the right location, and the right people.
