"Ryleigh, is this your boyfriend?"
Ryleigh hadn't even had a chance to say a word to Robin or Daphne before a tall, fashionably dressed young woman walked up from behind, flanked by two young men of similar age.
This woman is Mabel Lovett, daughter of Zennet Lovett, the Duchess of Hunderra.
Accompanying Mabel were two young men.
One was Donald, the son of the Maacks of Hunderra, one of Mabel's admirers.
The other was Lucian, heir to another prominent Hunderra household, the Shelbys. He was also one of Mabel's admirers.
Mabel, Donald, Lucian, and Ryleigh were all classmates at the Academy of Netheris.
Lucian had always harbored feelings for Ryleigh.
He had returned to Hunderra for the Black Faith Order's ceremony, where Xylon was being promoted to Peak Warrior. Lucian had hoped to ask Mabel to help him get closer to Ryleigh, maybe even bringing them together.
The moment he saw the admiration in Ryleigh's eyes as she gazed at Robin, a surge of anger rose within him.
And with Mabel's teasing words only fueling the fire, Lucian's heart was already brimming with hostility toward Robin.
Ryleigh blushed furiously at Mabel's sarcastic jab. Her secret feelings were suddenly bare, and panic surged in her chest.
"Mabel, stop joking around! This is the first time I've ever met Mr. Ramsey. He's an honored guest in Gyro City."
Mabel's gaze swept over Robin with thinly veiled desire.
She had never seen such a striking man in the entire Netheris.
From the moment she laid eyes on him, she was already intrigued.
Mabel stepped forward with a playful smile and held out her hand. "Hey, handsome. I'm Mabel. My father's the Duke of Hunderra. I'm here on behalf of Hunderra ... "
Robin wasn't interested in socializing with them. He had more pressing concerns, like finding where Shirley's soul was imprisoned.
Since Varryn's father once served as the Archmage of the Light Syndicate, he must know where the Dark Syndicate binds souls.
Mabel stepped forward to strike up a conversation. Still, Robin gave a detached nod and pulled Daphne along, walking past her without a word.
He left Mabel, Donald, and the others standing there, stunned.
The fiery light in Mabel's eyes immediately cooled, replaced by a sharp chill.
She was the daughter of the Duke of Hunderra.
How could she be ignored by some penniless, insignificant man?
"This was utterly unacceptable!"
Donald had already felt uncomfortable watching Mabel approach Robin.
Seeing her snubbed and humiliated, he seized the chance to curry favor. "Mabel, I'll drag that guy back and teach him manners!"
Ryleigh quickly stepped in. "Donald, calm down! If you cause a scene, things could get terrible."
Donald thumped his chest in bravado. "I advanced to high-tier warrior just last month. Beating someone like him would be a piece of cake! How dare he snub Mabel? I'll teach him a lesson!"
But Ryleigh remembered what Alaric had told her. Robin had effortlessly killed Evander and one of the Black Faith Order's Guardians. The remaining three guardians were forced to kneel in submission.
If someone like Donald picked a fight, Robin might kill him on the spot without hesitation.
"Donald, don't be reckless! Maybe they don't like talking to strangers," Ryleigh said, scrambling to find de-escalation excuses.
Mabel curled her lips. "Forget it.
"Today's a celebration of Xylon's breakthrough. Let's not make trouble.
"That guy's just a nobody. What's the big deal?
"Come on, let's go shopping."
Ryleigh and Alaric looked at Robin and Daphne's retreating figures and then at Donald, who was trying to butter up Mabel.
Alaric muttered, "Good thing they didn't try anything with those two. Otherwise, we'd probably be looking at three corpses right now."
Ryleigh stared at Robin's back, then glanced at Daphne. Her heart felt heavy with disappointment and loss.
