At Victory Hotel which was located near the Rosewood Apartments.
Inside one of the hotel suites, Simmond sat watching a video feed about Divine Drakebane.
From the miraculous resurrection at Snow Valley to avenging Tanqueria, and finally chasing down the Dark Syndicate agent Snivy ...
Watching Divine Drakebane carve a path through blood and fire stirred something deep within Simmond's chest.
"Divine Drakebane is the idol I admire most in this life," he muttered to himself.
"If only I could fight side by side with someone like him ... What a glorious life that would be!"
Just then, a soldier appeared at the door. "General Yates! Colonel Keanu, the Deputy Director of the Mecria Secret Intelligence Division is requesting to see you."
Simmond frowned.
Keanu? From the Mecria Secret Intelligence Division? What's he doing here?
"He came alone?"
The soldier shook his head. "Colonel Keanu has brought a full special ops unit. All of them are equipped for wartime combat."
That made Simmond instantly wary. He wondered if this visit was somehow related to Divine Drakebane.
"Let him in," Simmond said while switching off the external data stream and leaning back on the sofa.
A man in his 40s, wearing the uniform of a colonel, entered briskly.
"General Yates," he saluted. "Colonel Keanu of the Mecria Secret Intelligence Division reporting."
Simmond lifted an eyebrow. "Keanu, last I checked, you and I don't share any overlapping intelligence matters."
Keanu stepped forward. "General Yates, the Secret Intelligence Division has detected suspicious individuals operating in your vicinity."
Simmond's eyes flickered with surprise. "Around me? Or within my own guard?"
"In your personal guard. Ten of them. We've identified them as agents of the Dark Syndicate.
"We first began tracking them six months ago. They've been embedded in your team for over two years, remaining dormant until now.
"Half an hour ago, we received a report that they've been activated."
"Ten minutes ago, they began to move.
"We've confirmed their current mission—targeting Divine Drakebane's sister, Joanna."
Simmond shot up from the sofa.
"Joanna is protected by three hundred Dark Web Assassins! How the hell are they supposed to get close?"
Keanu smiled faintly and continued, "General Yates, have you heard of the Dark Syndicate's signature technique—Illusion?
"It's a lost art of the martial world, capable of confusing even the most battle-hardened killers. If they're using it, slipping past the Dark Web's defenses would be child's play.
"By the time I arrived, those ten agents had already closed in on Unit 709 of Rosewood Apartments.
"If we don't act now, they'll be in Joanna's bedroom within minutes."
Simmond grew visibly agitated. "Then we'll act now!"
However, Keanu raised his hand. "General Yates, don't you want to know why the Dark Syndicate keeps going after Joanna?"
Simmond scoffed. "Of course, I know!
"Snow Valley has no communication signal, and Tanqueria deployed jamming tech around its borders.
"Which means, before entering Snow Valley, Divine Drakebane would have left the super weapon system outside in case something went wrong.
"They suspect he gave it to Joanna for safekeeping.
"And if the Dark Syndicate is after that weapon system, then Joanna is in grave danger.
"I promised Mr. Drakebane that I would protect his sister at all costs—even if it meant sacrificing my own life.
"We don't have time for this. I'm heading to Unit 709 of Rosewood Apartments now!"
"Wait, General Yates!" Keanu stepped in front of him.
